At a memorial service for Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway in North Carolina, former President Donald Trump spoke among Republicans, praising Diamond as one of the world’s “biggest stars.” However, he also mentioned that he did not have a personal relationship with Rochelle “Silk” Richardson, the other half of the conservative duo “Diamond and Silk.”
“The world has lost one of its brightest stars but I see that we have another star who was equal to but she stepped up and she is different,” Trump said. ‘I’m serious. I thought I knew them both, I didn’t, I knew Diamond, but I didn’t know Silk at all. I just learned about Silk. You’re fantastic, you’re going to carry on beyond, beyond anybody’s wildest imaginations.”
Richardson spoke before Trump and praised Trump’s relationship with her and her sister, claiming he treated them like his own children.
In December, a 47-year-old man identified as Elvis Francois of Dominica was rescued by the Colombian Navy after being adrift at sea for 24 days. He had been working on his boat in St. Maarten when weather conditions suddenly worsened and he was dragged out to sea.
With limited navigation skills and unable to contact anyone, he wrote “HELP” on the back of his boat and survived on a mixture of ketchup, garlic powder, Maggi soup and water.
A plane eventually spotted his message for help.
“I tried to [go] back to port, but I lost track because it took me a while to mount the sail and fix the sail,” Francois said. “I call my friends, my coworkers. They tried to contact me, but they lost service. There was nothing else I could do than sit down and wait.”
“I had no food, just a bottle of ketchup that was on the boat, garlic powder and Maggi,” he continued. “So, I mixed it up with some water so I had this to survive for 24 days in the sea.”
He was found 120 nautical miles away from Puerto Bolívar in the Caribbean Sea and taken to the Port of Cartagena for medical care and to return to Dominica.
The navy reported he was in good health.
“At some point I lost hope and thought about my family, but I thank the coast guard. If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be telling the story,” Francois said.
A Canadian woman, Daniella Leis, who caused $10 million in damages after driving hammered and causing a house explosion, is now suing the concert venue that provided her alcoholic beverages.
Leis claims that the owners of the venue are liable for the incident that occurred in August 2019, as she was driving home from a Marilyn Manson concert at the Budweiser Gardens arena in London, Ontario.
Leis, who had been drinking at the concert, got behind the wheel and crashed her father’s Ford Fusion into a brick home, rupturing a gas line and triggering a massive explosion that destroyed four houses and injured seven people, CBC reported.
The entire neighborhood had to be evacuated, with gas and water service shut off in the area. Leis pleaded guilty to four counts of impaired driving, and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021.
However, Leis and her father, Shawn Leis, have now filed a lawsuit against Ovations Ontario Food Services, the company that distributed the alcohol.
They claim that the company shares liability for the blast on the grounds that their staff did not take steps to ensure Leis would not drive home while she was already ejected from the venue, and for serving her alcohol while aware that she was already intoxicated, putting profit above safety and causing the damages by their negligence and breach of duty and contract.
A near-miss collision occurred at JFK Airport on Friday when one plane crossed onto a runway as another plane was preparing for takeoff, according to officials.
At around 8:45 p.m., crew members observed an American Airlines jetliner crossing onto the runway from an adjacent taxiway as a Delta Air Lines plane was about to take off. The Delta pilots quickly applied the brakes and were able to stop the plane carrying over 150 people just 1,000 feet away from the American Airlines aircraft.
Takeoff was subsequently aborted by air traffic controllers after they noticed the other aircraft crossing the runway in front of the departing plane. No one was injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the incident.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana — On December 8th, 2022, Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Force Investigation Unit (FIU) were called to investigate a shooting incident involving a uniform patrol Trooper. The incident occurred on Interstate 10 Eastbound near the Washington St. exit, within the city limits of Baton Rouge. Preliminary information indicated that on December 8, 2022, at approximately 10:02 p.m., a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Suburban for a traffic violation on Interstate 10 eastbound, west of LA 415 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The vehicle was driven by 52-year-old Jose Reza-Navarro of Spring, Texas.
During the course of the traffic stop, Reza-Navarro fled east on Interstate 10, which resulted in a high speed vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, Reza-Navarro caused multiple hit and run crashes as he continued to flee Troopers. Due to the enhanced danger to the public and excessive speed of the violator, Troopers terminated the pursuit. Shortly after terminating the pursuit, Troopers encountered Reza-Navarro’s vehicle, which had become disabled after crashing into another vehicle on Interstate 10 eastbound near Interstate 110. Reza-Navarro was observed leaving the scene on foot. For reasons still under investigation, a Trooper discharged his firearm shortly after coming into contact with Reza-Navarro.
Despite contacting EMS and rendering aid, Reza-Navarro succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The incident scene was processed by Louisiana State Police Crime Lab Technicians. While processing the scene, a search warrant was obtained and executed for Reza-Navarro’s vehicle. Subsequently, detectives located approximately 83 kilos of suspected cocaine [pending scientific analysis] concealed within suitcases in the vehicle. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is $2.5 million. In accordance with LSP policy, the Trooper involved in the deadly force event will be placed on administrative leave at this time. The investigation remains ongoing with further information to be released in coordination with the East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office at the appropriate time.

Houston, Texas — On December 16, 2022, HPD Patrol officers received information of an aggravated robbery/carjacking and learned the suspect (30-year-old Joseph Taylor) was driving the victim’s vehicle on Bellaire Boulevard near U.S. Highway 59 South. Officers proceeded to the location and observed the vehicle in the 8300 block of Bellaire Blvd. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle using their lights and siren, but Taylor ignored the officers and evaded in the stolen vehicle. Officers pursued Taylor for several miles going into neighborhoods and then back out onto the main roadway. Officers observed Taylor travelling westbound near the 9100 block of Bellaire Blvd. when Taylor ran a light and struck another vehicle.
Officers observed Taylor exit the vehicle and evade on foot. Officers pursued Taylor into a nearby apartment complex where an officer attempted to deploy a CED (Conducted Energy Device) to Taylor, with no success. Officers continued to pursue Taylor when he produced a firearm. At that time, one officer discharged his duty weapon, striking Taylor in the ankle. Three firearms were recovered from Taylor before paramedics transported him to a hospital. Taylor was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Following treatment for a gunshot wound to his ankle, he was transported to jail. Taylor is charged with three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated robbery in the 230th State District Court.
