Pew: 20 Percent More Americans Call Illegal Immigration ‘Very Big Problem’ Under Joe Biden

About 20 percent more Americans today call illegal immigration a “very big problem” under President Joe Biden’s direction as opposed to the same time last year when then-President Donald Trump imposed a series of controls to slow overall immigration levels.

The latest Pew Research Center survey, conducted from April 5 to 11, reveals the number of American adults who say illegal immigration is a very big problem has jumped 20 percentage points since last year when Trump was in office.

In June 2020, 28 percent of Americans called illegal immigration a very big problem. Today, 48 percent of Americans consider illegal immigration a very big problem. For context, more Americans see illegal immigration as a bigger problem than the Chinese coronavirus.

The jump in concern is across party lines. Today, 72 percent of Republican voters call illegal immigration a very big problem — a 29 percentage point increase since June 2020 — while 29 percent of Democrats say the same. In June 2020, just 15 percent of Democrats said illegal immigration was a very big problem.

After Biden took office, he quickly dismantled Trump’s legal wall at the southern border by ending the “Remain in Mexico” program, canceling cooperative asylum agreements with Central America, and fast-tracking border crossers into the U.S. interior while giving them one-year work permits.

Simultaneously, Biden’s administration issued “sanctuary country” orders that have massively cut interior immigration enforcement and are preventing about nine-in-ten deportations of illegal aliens, analysis shows.

Last month, nearly 170,000 border crossers were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border. This is a 450 percent increase in illegal immigration compared to the same time last year under Trump.

The expansion of overall immigration levels is at odds with the majority of Americans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,250 likely U.S. voters shows nearly six-in-ten said the federal government is doing “too little” to stop illegal immigration. Only 14 percent said the government is doing “too much,” and 21 percent said their policies are “about right.”

Rather than allowing businesses to have an endless supply of foreign labor via immigration, 65 percent of likely U.S. voters say it is better for businesses to recruit Americans with higher wages and better benefits. Only 17 percent said the federal government should bring in new foreign workers for business.

Already, about 11 to 22 million illegal aliens live in the U.S. This year, analysts project that federal immigration officials will encounter 1.2 million border crossers with likely thousands more able to successfully illegally enter the nation without being detected.

Photos: Border Wall Materials Neglected After Joe Biden Halts Construction

Materials for the United States-Mexico border wall are sitting neglected in south Texas after President Joe Biden halted all construction of the barrier on his first day in office.

Photos in La Joya, Texas, reveal how border wall materials are languishing since Biden halted construction. The move has since prompted an investigation by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) into whether Biden unlawfully stopped the construction after taxpayer money was allocated for the infrastructure project.

Other photos of the border wall, from Roma, Texas, show the extent to which large portions of the barrier are sitting unfinished with wide-open gaps. The border is nearly 2,000-miles long, the majority of which has no barrier.

This week, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) wrote to GAO investigators that he believes Biden has violated federal law by halting border wall construction after the funding was allocated by Congress in prior budgets.

“In my view, the Biden administration is in violation of congressional directives to build the border wall … this reckless maneuver prevented contractors from demobilizing in an orderly fashion, thus wasting taxpayer dollars,” Gosar wrote.

Biden’s decision to halt construction cost American taxpayers about $6 million a day, an exclusive Breitbart News report revealed. Former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Director Mark Morgan said the move has killed about 5,000 construction jobs as well as other jobs in the steel, concrete, and technology industries.

Simultaneously, illegal immigration skyrocketed.

In March, federal immigration officials apprehended nearly 170,000 border crossers including more than 18,600 UACs, nearly 53,000 family units, and nearly 97,000 single adults. The surge in illegal immigration under Biden marks a 72 percent increase in a single month and 243 percent increased compared to March 2020.

Breitbart News exclusively reported about 155,000 illegal aliens have successfully crossed into the U.S. since October 2020 — roughly 1,500 “got-aways” every day.

Exclusive–Lonergan: Postcard from McAllen: Biden Brings Chaos, Disease and Death to Our Border

Despite the polarized times we live in, this much has become increasingly hard to deny: there are the official Biden administration talking points, and then there is reality.

This became obvious on a recent trip I made to the epicenter of our nation’s immigration crisis, the border area near McAllen, Texas. The credibility of Homeland Security Director Alejandro Mayorkas’ claim that “the border is closed” quickly evaporated after what we saw in a pre-dawn visit to a remote, grassy area near the banks of the Rio Grande. A steady stream of migrants emerged from the bushes and were apprehended by Border Patrol agents. In less than 30 minutes, the number of those in custody swelled to over 100, almost all of them teenagers or mothers with young children. A drive a few miles away revealed a similar scene. The border is anything but closed.

To say these people were apprehended is something of a misnomer. They were not restrained and offered no resistance. Why didn’t they resist? Most likely because they got the message sent loud and clear by the Biden White House until a few weeks ago: get yourself across the border and you will not be sent back. The U.S.-Mexico border and most of America’s immigration laws have been rendered obsolete by this administration. De facto amnesty is the new order of the day.

Biden and his acolytes may fancy themselves as more compassionate to these travelers than their critics, but again, the reality is something different. This administration’s cynical actions in just two short months have caused unfathomable human suffering to those arriving at our border, and Americans will be enduring the negative consequences of these actions for decades to come.

As a candidate last fall, Biden promised the moon and the stars to foreign nationals, pledging they would receive free healthcare and no return trip home even when caught entering the country illegally. He even went as far as to encourage them to “surge the border,” and then deflected blame when the predictable surge arrived. These reckless promises may have given temporary hope to migrants, but it has served to put tens of millions of dollars per day into the pockets of drug and human trafficking cartels, who are obscenely profiting from Biden’s faux compassion.

Spurred on by candidate Biden’s encouragement, those making the journey face violence and even death. Doctors Without Borders has reported that 70 percent of migrants to the border claim to have suffered violence at the hands of traffickers. Estimates vary, but some data suggests that about a third of the women who make the journey are sexually assaulted. Those who arrive in America must often pay exorbitant fees to the ruthless cartels in exchange for passage. Those who cannot pay are often tortured or killed.

To the Democrats who seek to benefit politically from this mass migration of people, such tales of horror are apparently considered acceptable collateral damage, because they rarely speak a word about it and do nothing to prevent it. This is what passes for “compassion” in Joe Biden’s America.

This unconscionable border policy claims its share of victims among the citizens and legal residents of America as well. Those apprehended today are put in overflowing detention facilities, the same ones that were built by the Obama-Biden administration and assailed as “cages” by Democrats during the Trump years. Stacking human beings so close at a time when we are told to practice social distancing can only produce bad health outcomes when those in custody are soon dispersed throughout the country.

As part of its cash-cow business at the border, the cartels deal in illegal drugs as well as people. They have also developed sophisticated tactics to avoid law enforcement. Since the surge began, one of its most effective techniques is to flood the points of entry with migrants, forcing border agents to leave more remote posts to assist with the situation. The cartels can then transport large quantities of drugs like opioids across largely unmanned areas.

Almost 50,000 people in the United States died from opioid-involved overdoses in 2019. The total economic cost of opioid misuse in the country is $78.5 billion per year. When people in faraway places like New Hampshire, West Virginia and Washington state die of opioid overdoses, those are likely more casualties of drug trafficking cartels enabled by the Biden administration and its irresponsible border policies.

The Biden White House will continue to indulge in its game of make-believe, where the border is closed and they are the sole proprietors of compassion when it comes to migrants. The corrupt, partisan media will fool a good portion of the country that this narrative is authentic. But the cost of this delusion—in terms of human suffering, lives, and billions of scarce taxpayer dollars expended on it—is all too real.

Report: Biden Giving Federal Employees Paid Leave to Help Border Crossers

President Joe Biden’s administration is reportedly begging federal employees from various agencies to take paid leave to provide care to thousands of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) arriving at the United States-Mexico border.

A report by the New York Times this weekend alleges the Biden administration is sending emails to federal employees asking them to take paid leave to help care for UACs who are arriving by the thousands every month.

The Times reports:

The desperate plea landed this week in the email inboxes of employees in government agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and NASA: Will you consider taking a four-month paid leave from your job to help care for migrant children in government-run shelters packed with new arrivals at the border? [Emphasis added]

A briefing memo sent to administration officials this week directed the health department to “identify and deploy all available federal volunteers to support” the effort to address the increase of minors, a drive reflected by the email seeking government workers to help. As of Friday, 2,722 employees across the government have volunteered, in most cases with their salaries being picked up by the health department. Some are caring for children at shelters. Others are helping with case management, I.T. services, food delivery, transportation and other logistics. [Emphasis added]

The reported redeployment of thousands of federal employees to aid border crossers comes as the Biden administration has seen the U.S.-Mexico border become overwhelmed as a result of the policy changes made by the president in his first few weeks in office.

Most concerning is the number of border crossers who are successfully illegally entering the U.S. without being detected by federal immigration officials. Breitbart News exclusively reported that about 155,000 illegal aliens have successfully crossed into the U.S. since October 2020 — roughly 1,500 “got-aways” every day.

Republican House Judiciary Members Witness Border Crisis: This Is ‘Biden’s Mess’; America Has Become ‘Sanctuary Nation’

McALLEN, Texas — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) led several Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee on a two-day visit to McAllen this week where they witnessed the ongoing border crisis, and all the members — as they recapped their visit — said the Biden administration was at fault for surging numbers of illegal migrants.

Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 170,000 migrants crossing the southern border illegally in March, a 72 percent increase from February. As Breitbart News reported, in the first two full months of President Joe Biden’s time in office, February and March, apprehensions were at a combined total of nearly 210,000, while in the last four months of former President Donald Trump’s tenure, apprehensions were at a combined total of just over 280,000.

Jordan, the ranking Republican member on the Judiciary Committee, gathered from speaking with Border Patrol agents that the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program, also known as Remain in Mexico — which Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suspended on his first day as president — is imperative to reinstate as a first step in controlling the migrant influx.

Jordan told Breitbart News on Wednesday near the conclusion of his visit, “This is … not just Jim Jordan talking, not just Republican members of the Judiciary Committee talking. This is the Border Patrol agents themselves, what they’re telling us. That’s what we’ve got to get done, and we have to talk about this and try to persuade our Democratic colleagues this is just good common sense. This is for the good of the country, and frankly, it’s for the good of these kids and these families who are making that treacherous trek up through Mexico to get here.”

The MPP program allowed border officials to return asylum-seeking migrants back to Mexico while they await the processing of their claims, which the Trump administration at the time of implementing the program, in January 2019, said would serve as a deterrent for illegal migration and help control an “unprecedented number” of “fraudulent asylum claims.”

Opponents of the MPP program argue sending asylum-seekers back to Mexico puts them in potentially unsanitary or dangerous conditions and creates nearly insurmountable barriers to being granted asylum if they do actually qualify for it.

However, as Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) detailed during a roundtable the delegation attended Wednesday, halting the MPP program has served as one cause — among several other Biden policies — of what has now become America’s “massive humanitarian crisis.”

“We know that it’s policy driven,” Biggs said. “We know that it’s this Biden administration’s policies that have done this. Why do we know that? Because we simply have to look at when those policies were in place. I’m talking MPP, the Remain in Mexico policy. I’m talking about the agreements with the Northern Triangle states, with Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. I’m talking about the incentive factor. We all respond to incentives. How about $1,400 per illegal alien in the COVID relief package? How about a free education? How about, you’ll get transported wherever you need to go? And once you’re in, it’s almost impossible for you to be sent out, and that’s really what’s going on. And so, President Trump found a problem, and he solved it. President Biden saw a solution and now he’s dissolved that and created a massive humanitarian crisis.”

Biggs, at a press conference later on Wednesday, referred to comments Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made: “That’s why the president of Mexico said this is Biden’s mess. It is Biden’s mess.”

Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC), who also attended the trip, agreed asylum claims are a “predicate for people entering the country.” He told Breitbart News of the MPP program, “It was an innovative, strategic policy to eliminate the perverse incentive in asylum claims. They can assert their asylum right, but you don’t want as the price of that to have any unlimited numbers of people coming into the country.”

The House Judiciary Committee is the committee that has primary jurisdiction over immigration policy. Jordan said at the press conference the committee’s Democrat members were invited on the trip and declined the invitation. Breitbart News reached out to committee chair Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) to inquire about the reason for this and did not receive an immediate response.

Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), the lead Republican on the committee’s subcommittee on immigration, said the Biden administration also shares blame for the swell of illegal migration because of his 100-day moratorium on most deportations. “My assessment is that Biden’s executive order on returning criminal illegals, deporting them after they’ve served their terms, now essentially makes the United States a sanctuary nation,” McClintock said during the roundtable.

Despite a federal judge blocking Biden’s moratorium in February, a Wall Street Journal analysis found Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s job priorities have still changed under the new administration’s policies as indicated by a drop of 50 percent in deportations in March compared with deportations in the months at the end of Trump’s tenure.

Biden’s DHS issued a memo on his first day in office justifying calling for the moratorium, saying DHS must “surge resources” to the southern border to “ensure safe, legal, and orderly processing, to rebuild fair and effective asylum procedures that respect human rights and due process … and to prioritize responding to threats to national security, public safety, and border security.”

The delegation’s consensus, however, was that Biden’s immigration policies and rhetoric about such policies have created a magnet for illegal migration and resulted in what has become growing and uncontrollable numbers of illegal migrants.

Two other members of the Judiciary Committee in attendance, Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) and Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT), railed against Biden for failing to acknowledge the issue. “Not dealing with this issue, not looking at the policies, I think it’s a complete lack of leadership and disregard,” Spartz told Breitbart News.

Owens surmised, “It’s either incompetence or it’s on purpose.”

Exclusive: Jim Jordan Sees ‘Chaos’ at Texas Federal Facility Holding Migrant Children

McALLEN, Texas — Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) during a two-day visit to the U.S.-Mexico border described the main federal border facility in Donna, which is far exceeding its capacity, as “chaos,” providing his remarks to Breitbart News on Wednesday after a roundtable meeting with congressional colleagues and Texas officials.

Jordan this week led a delegation of several Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee, the committee that has primary jurisdiction over immigration policy, to McAllen to tour the southern border and visit multiple federal border facilities.

Judiciary Committee border visit, Donna, Texas, April 6, 2021

Jordan, who is ranking member on the committee, observed cramped conditions in one “pod” in the Donna facility, which primarily holds unaccompanied alien children (UACs), noting the pod was holding 15 times more UACs than was permitted under current coronavirus guidelines.

Media were not allowed to accompany the delegation on its facility tour, and aside from a “single event” with select outlets last week, are currently not allowed access to the facility at all, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) official confirmed to congressional staff.

Jordan said, “We saw one pod that was supposed to have 33 kids in this confined space area, and they had 527. So, that to me is overwhelming. That’s chaos. That is what our good Border Patrol agents are having to deal with.”

The overflowing pod is the product of a surge in illegal migration that U.S. Border Patrol’s union president, Brandon Judd, said during the roundtable was “unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.” In March, CBP reported 170,000 apprehensions of migrants crossing the border illegally, up 72 percent from February. According to Judd, that is the most monthly apprehensions Border Patrol has seen in the last 15 years. More than 18,000 of the 170,000 were UACs.

Jordan, like many of his Republican colleagues, says the first response to controlling the growing issue is reinstating the Trump-era Remain in Mexico policy in which border officials were able to send migrants seeking asylum back to Mexico to file their paperwork and await the processing of their claims.

Jordan assessed that President Joe Biden’s suspension of the policy was a key reason the numbers began to swell and that the Biden administration’s priorities for addressing the influx are unclear. “What I do know is the Remain in Mexico policy was working,” Jordan said. “Every border agent we talked to told us that is the reason they are seeing this surge, and according to the head of the Border Patrol council, Mr. Judd, he said this surge is unprecedented. He’s never seen anything like it.”

Biden’s Department of Homeland Security halted Remain in Mexico on his first day in office, citing a “commitment to reform immigration policies that do not align with our nation’s values.” The Associated Press reported the policy “exposed people to violence in Mexican border cities” and created more hurdles for completing the asylum-seeking process but that the Trump administration instituted the policy as a “critical” means of controlling peaking numbers of asylum-seekers in 2019.

When asked what stood out to Jordan the most during his trip, the Ohio Republican said it was the “overwhelming numbers” and added that although his “heart goes out to the kids, to the families,” the volume presents a “huge” concern for American education and hospital systems.

Ashley Oliver

“They said there are 16,000 kids, as we speak, who have moved from Custom and Borders to HHS, and they’re housing these kids, and these kids are going to be sent somewhere in the country to some relative — maybe a parent, maybe someone else — but they’re going to be moved in the country, and that turnover is every 24 days,” Jordan explained. “They told us that that 16,000 number turning over every 24 days, that number’s going to go to 60,000 turning over every 24 days. So you do the math. That’s hundreds of thousands of children just coming into the country over the next year, and you couple that with all the other immigrants we’re seeing coming into the country. It is two to three million people in one year’s time that they’re all coming in, and what does that mean for communities? What does that mean for our public education system? What does that mean for our hospital systems? That’s huge. So, that is a concern, and it can be prevented and it can be done in a legal fashion if we put back in place the policies that were working.”

Jordan said he believes the Biden administration’s second priority after reinstating Remain in Mexico should be to complete the border wall.

McCarthy Requests FBI, CIA Briefing on Terror Suspects Crossing U.S. Border

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is requesting a classified briefing from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officials on terror suspects crossing the United States-Mexico border illegally.

In a letter to FBI and CIA officials, McCarthy asked that the two agencies brief him, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Vice President Kamala Harris on “the ongoing national security risk posed by the border crisis.”

This week, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials revealed that two illegal aliens from Yemen were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in January and March. Background checks showed that both were on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and the No-Fly List.

McCarthy writes in the letter:

I am writing to request a classified briefing regarding certain individuals apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol. Through conversations with the Border Patrol and media reports, I have learned of the apprehension of foreign nationals on the Terrorism Watch List who were attempting to illegally cross our southern border.

McCarthy continued:

Last month, I, along with 12 other members of Congress, traveled to El Paso, Texas, to see firsthand the humanitarian and security crisis that has emerged along our southern border this year. The agents of the U.S. Border Patrol provided us with an eye-opening tour and briefings regarding the current crisis in El Paso and the operational challenges they face each day. During the briefings, the agents conveyed to us that they have apprehended individuals from not only Mexico and Central America, but also countries including China, Iran, Yemen, and Turkey. They then conveyed that they had apprehended individuals who are on the Terrorism Watch List. These revelations were shocking and concerning, and for those reasons, I felt compelled to share them with the nation. [Emphasis added]

Compounding the risk, approximately 1,000 people each day are evading capture by the U.S. Border Patrol, according to recent reporting from the Washington Post. While I am grateful to the Border Patrol for doing all they can, I have great concern about the number of bad actors that have escaped arrest and are residing in the United States. We simply have no way of knowing if other terrorists have crossed the border undetected. [Emphasis added]

McCarthy Letter to CIA, FBI by John Binder

After DHS sent the press release revealing that the two illegal aliens from Yemen had been apprehended at the border, the agency erased the page.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson told Breitbart News that the press release “contained certain disclosure and policy information” that “required CBP to remove it from our website.”

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki attempted to downplay the national security threat of illegal immigration at the southern border.

“First let me convey that these sets of incidents are very uncommon,” Psaki said when asked about the two illegal aliens from Yemen who were apprehended. “… while this is rare, this is a reflection of [Border Patrol] doing their job.”

Those on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and No-Fly List seeking to cross illegally into the U.S. are not isolated incidents, as reports over the years have confirmed.

From October 2020 to the beginning of March, for example, congressional aides have said there have been at least four separate Border Patrol encounters with illegal aliens on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List.

Likewise, in 2016, Breitbart News reported exclusively on a series of leaked documents from the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center revealing that from July 2015 to July 2016, the FBI documented more than 7,700 encounters with illegal aliens who appeared on the Terrorism Watch List. Subsequent reports show encounters numbering in the thousands annually.

Report: Joe Biden’s DHS Considers Resuming Border Wall Construction

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is considering resuming construction of the border wall after having halted construction in late January, a report claims.

An exclusive report from Washington Times reporter Stephen Dinan suggests that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is considering restarting border wall construction to fill in “gaps” that exist after former President Trump’s administration constructed 450 miles from 2017 to 2020.

Dinan reports:

In a conversation with ICE employees last week Mr. Mayorkas was asked about his plans for the wall and he said that while Mr. Biden has canceled the border emergency and halted Pentagon money flowing to the wall, “that leaves room to make decisions” on finishing some “gaps in the wall.” [Emphasis added]

Mr. Mayorkas, according to notes of the ICE session reviewed by The Washington Times, said Customs and Border Protection, which oversees the wall, has submitted a plan for what it wants to see happen moving forward. [Emphasis added]

“The president has communicated quite clearly his decision that the emergency that triggered the devotion of DOD funds to the construction of the border wall is ended. But that leaves room to make decisions as the administration, as part of the administration, in particular areas of the wall that need renovation, particular projects that need to be finished,” he said. [Emphasis added]

As one of Biden’s first acts as president, he halted construction of the border wall, a move that has prompted an investigation from the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Biden’s decision to halt construction has cost American taxpayers about $6 million a day, an exclusive Breitbart News report revealed.

Former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Director Mark Morgan said Biden’s halt to construction has killed about 5,000 construction jobs as well as other jobs in the steel, concrete, and technology industries.

Illegal immigration has skyrocketed under the Biden administration. Last month, more than 170,000 border crossers were apprehended at the United States-Mexico border — the highest level of illegal immigration in any month in at least 15 years. The total also means illegal immigration has increased 70 percent to February.

Border Bishops Call for ‘Safe, Orderly, and Humane Immigration’

U.S. and Mexican bishops living along the border issued a joint statement this week calling for “humanitarian solutions” to immigration.

“As U.S. and Mexican bishops along the border, we witness daily the dilemma that our migrant sisters and brothers face,” the statement reads. “For most, the decision to migrate is not motivated by an indifference toward their homeland or the pursuit of economic prosperity; it is a matter of life or death.”

While recognizing the right of nations to control their borders, the bishops call on countries to welcome migrants in accordance with their “intrinsic dignity” and to pay special care to the treatment of children.

“Undoubtedly, nations have the right to maintain their borders. This is vital to their sovereignty and self-determination,” the bishops declare. “At the same time, there is a shared responsibility of all nations to preserve human life and provide for safe, orderly, and humane immigration, including the right to asylum.”

The nine U.S. bishops and six Mexican bishops urge leaders of both host nations and countries of emigration to improve conditions to reduce the need for migration and to take better care of those who migrate.

We renew our appeal to our governments, to political leaders, and civil society, “that they work together to welcome, protect, promote, and integrate migrants in accordance with their intrinsic dignity, as well as work with other countries in the region to eliminate conditions that compel their citizens to resort to dangerous and irregular migration, producing long-term solutions,” they state.

In their statement, the bishops also call for special attention to the unity of families.

“Conscious of the importance of public health and safety, we encourage policies supported by sound scientific rationales,” they declare. “We maintain that family unity must be a vital component of any response. We ask that special attention be given to particularly vulnerable populations, such as children.”

The bishops also “strongly urge that structures be put in place and reforms in our laws be made to both promote a welcoming culture for our sisters and brothers and respect the sovereignty and safety of our countries.”

The prelates also offer the support of Catholic institutions and structures to aid in an effort to improve the immigration process.

“We pledge our support to continue helping our respective governments’ efforts to protect and care for families, as well as individuals who feel compelled to migrate,” they state. “To accomplish this we commit to the ongoing work of Catholic organizations at the border and elsewhere, which are generously tended to by lay people, consecrated persons, and the clergy.”

The bishops conclude by suggesting that Holy Week, when Christians celebrate the mystery of salvation, is an appropriate time to recommit to helping migrants, “conscious that while the way ahead is long and arduous, it is not impossible if we journey together.”

Watch: Biden Staffer Blocks Cruz From Taking Video at Migrant Facility

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) showed video of a woman he identified as a Biden administration staffer blocking him from recording at a migrant facility on this week’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”

While Cruz was trying to film at the Border Patrol facility in Donna, Texas, the staffer blocking his camera said, “Please give dignity to the people. Please give dignity to the people.”

Cruz said, “So you work for the commissioner. You’re a senior adviser. You were hired two weeks ago, and you’re instructed to ask us to not have any pictures taken here because the political leadership at DHS does not want the American people to know it.”

The staffer responded, “Please don’t treat the people as such.”

Cruz said, “Your policies are unfortunately trying to hide them. I understand that you were instructed. I respect them, and I want to fix this situation, and the administration that you work for is responsible for these conditions.”

Discussing the video, Cruz said, “The Donna facility where that video you just showed was taken, the Donna facility is this giant tent city that they’ve built. It’s massive. It’s designed to hold a thousand people, but under COVID restrictions, its capacity is 250. It right now has over 4,000 people in it. It is at a 1,500% capacity, and that meant you saw in these cages children, little boys and little girls, side by side, they’re not 6-feet apart,” Cruz said on Sunday.

Hew added, “In that facility, children are testing positive for COVID at roughly a 10% rate.”
