Gonzaga Suspends Legendary Alum John Stockton’s Season Tickets over Mask Refusal

Gonzaga Suspends Legendary Alum John Stockton’s Season Tickets over Mask Refusal

Former NBA star John Stockton, Gonzaga University’s most famous alumni, has had his season tickets revoked by the school because he won’t wear a mask at home games.

The famed Utah Jazz point guard recently told the Spokane, Washington, Spokesman-Review that the school canceled his season tickets because he refused a demand that he wear a mask because, as a prominent spectator, his mask refusal is conspicuous.

“Basically, it came down to, they were asking me to wear a mask to the games and being a public figure, someone a little bit more visible, I stuck out in the crowd a little bit,” Stockton said. “And therefore, they received complaints and felt like from whatever the higher-ups – those weren’t discussed, but from whatever it was higher up – they were going to have to either ask me to wear a mask or they were going to suspend my tickets.”

Stockton reported that Gonzaga Athletic Director Chris Standiford let him know of the school’s decision to bar him from the stadium. Still, he also noted that several officials had asked him to wear a mask.

Standiford would not comment on the situation with Stockton but did say that the athletics department is only adhering to rules set forth by the school and the state. Standiford also cited the closing of concessions as an example of the school’s efforts at COVID mitigation.

Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh also noted that masks are required, telling the paper, “it is imperative that we commit to wearing face coverings while in indoor, congregate settings. Masks are required in all classrooms, labs, and common areas such as offices, study lounges, hallways, library spaces, and places where others are present (with obvious exceptions, such as dining and certain fitness center activities). Students, ticket-holders, and all those attending basketball games at McCarthey Center and sporting events indoors are required to wear masks at all times.”

Stockton did say that while the masking and vaccination demands have put stress on his relationship with the school, he does not consider it a deal-breaker at this time.

The famed NBA player is known as a vaccine skeptic. Even in the Spokesman-Review interview, he claimed that more than 100 pro athletes had died immediately after being vaccinated. He also said that tens of thousands have died from taking the COVID vaccine.

The CDC claims it has received reports of 11,468 deaths of Americans in the weeks following vaccination. However, the agency has not determined if any of those deaths are related to the various coronavirus vaccines themselves or are from other causes.

Tom Cotton: NBA Should Force Chamath Palihapitiya to Sell Stake in Warriors

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) on Tuesday called on the National Basketball Association to force Golden State Warriors part-owner Chamath Palihapitiya to sell his stake in the team after he claimed “nobody cares” about Communist China’s genocide of the Uyghurs in the country’s Xinjiang region.

“Woke CEO Chamath Palihapitiya said no one cares about the Chinese Communist Party’s mass enslavement, torture, and rape of religious minorities. He may be so callous that he doesn’t care about genocide, but the American people do,” Cotton said in a statement.

“The NBA has investigated owners and forced a sale after outrageous comments before, and it even moved the All-Star game to protest a North Carolina law saying boys and girls shouldn’t use the same bathroom. The league will prove itself greedy, spineless, and hypocritical if it doesn’t force Palihapitiya to sell his interest in the Warriors,” the lawmaker concluded.

Palihapitiya set off a firestorm this week when he declared that he did not care about the industrial-scale persecution of the Uyghurs.

Breitbart News previously reported:

During his All-In podcast interview, Palihapitiya waved off concerns about China’s ongoing genocide against the Uyghurs, saying, “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs.”

Palihapitiya, the CEO of Societal Capital which boasts that its call is “solving the world’s hardest problems,” shocked podcast host David Sacks when he dismissed concerns about the enslavement of millions of Chinese Uyghurs because he feels no one cares about them. Palihapitiya went on to add that he has other priorities to worry about.

In addition to being a part-owner of the Warriors and a venture capitalist, Palihapitiya is also a major donor to the Democrat Party. He donated over $1 million to Democrats in the previous election cycle, including a $250,000 check to the Biden Victory Fund.

Palihapitiya made headlines last year when he teased a potential recall challenge to California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) but ultimately did not go through with a bid.

NBA Owner Who Said ‘Nobody Cares’ About Uyghurs Is Democrat Mega-donor

Chamath Palihapitiya, the NBA team owner who told a podcast Saturday that “nobody cares” about the genocide of China’s Uyghur Muslim population, is a Democratic Party mega-donor who has flirted with the idea of running for governor of California.

As Breitbart News reported, Palihapitiya, 45, the co-owner of the Golden State Warriors, told the All-In podcast that he did not care about the Uyghur issue:

During his All-In podcast interview, Palihapitiya waved off concerns about China’s ongoing genocide against the Uyghurs, saying, “Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs.”

Palihapitiya, the CEO of Societal Capital which boasts that its call is “solving the world’s hardest problems,” shocked podcast host David Sacks when he dismissed concerns about the enslavement of millions of Chinese Uyghurs because he feels no one cares about them. Palihapitiya went on to add that he has other priorities to worry about.

Palihapitiya is also a major donor to the Democratic Party. As Breitbart News reported last year: “Palihapitiya, the CEO of venture capital firm Social Capital, gave more than $1 million to Democrats in the last election — including $250,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.” (The Biden administration distanced itself from Palihapitiya’s remarks on Monday.)

Almost all of Palihapitiya’s donations have been to Democrats — with the exception of thousands of dollars given to Ted Cruz in his first U.S. Senate campaign — and several were given to Democratic Party organizations in key swing states in the 2020 election.

As Breitbart News noted last year, Palihapitiya even considered running against Gov. Gavin Newsom in the California recall, though he did not ultimately do so.

Like The NBA, Golden State Warriors Co-Owner ‘Doesn’t Care’ About Uyghur Suffering

Like The NBA, Golden State Warriors Co-Owner ‘Doesn’t Care’ About Uyghur Suffering

Billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya, a part-owner of the Golden State Warriors, joined his friends in the National Basketball Association this week by turning a blind eye to Communist China’s human rights violations against the Uyghurs.

“Nobody cares about what’s happening to the Uyghurs, okay?” Palihapitiya said in a recent episode of his All-In Podcast. “You bring it up because you really care and I think that’s nice that you care, the rest of us don’t care.”

It’s a jarring statement that clearly bothered his podcast co-host and “bestie” Jason Calacanis.

“Wait, you’re saying you personally don’t care?” Calacanis asked incredulously.

“I’m telling you a very hard, ugly truth, okay? Of all the things that I care about, yes, it is below my line,” Palihapitiya reaffirmed.

Palihapitiya said the not-so-quiet part of the NBA’s attempts to sympathize with Communist China out loud.

For years the NBA has capitalized on its relationship with China while conveniently ignoring the authoritarian regime’s tyranny, concentration camps, censorship, and more. The professional basketball league has not only profited millions off of feeding China basketball content, but it also sells shoes hyping up various NBA teams and players that are made by Anta Sports, a company that sources materials from the Xinjiang province where Uyghur Muslims are tortured, held, and frequently disappeared by the Chinese government.

The NBA also happily silenced employees who spoke out against the sports organization’s friendliness with the communist regime and barred fans from customizing jerseys with the slogan “FreeHongKong” to support Hong Kong’s fight for democracy.

While the Boston Celtics’ Enes Kanter Freedom pleads for the world to pay attention to China’s authoritarian practices, the NBA actively avoids acknowledging China’s grave, murderous errors.

At the same time, the NBA proudly endorses rhetoric and actions criticizing the U.S. In 2020, several WNBA players stormed off the basketball court and the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks and other teams boycotted games over the shootings of Breonna Taylor and knife-wielding Jacob Blake. As a result, the NBA began to push woke racial “equity” propaganda on and off the courts which eventually bit them in the butt when viewership and ratings plummeted.

During his conversation about China and the Uyghurs, Palihapitiya admitted that he “cares” about some of the popular leftist talking points such as climate change, “America’s crippling and decrepit health care infrastructure,” and even if China invades Taiwan. Still, much like the NBA, Palihapitiya could not bother himself with condemning the grotesque genocide of the Uyghurs by Communist China.

“Every time I say that I care about the Uyghurs, I’m really just lying if I don’t really care, and so I’d rather not lie to you and tell you the truth: It’s not a priority for me,” Palihapitiya said.

If Palihapitiya had professed a lack of care for a person, group, or cause wielded by the left to accomplish a political agenda such as the racial justice initiative, he would have been immediately canceled and forced to give up his portion of ownership of the NBA team. Instead, his comments seem to have ruffled approximately zero of his fellow NBA team owners’ feathers.

Palihapitiya can turn a blind eye to Uyghur suffering in Xinjiang because he knows the China-sympathetic NBA will defend him.

Enes Kanter Freedom: People Should Have ‘Freedom To Choose’ Whether To Get COVID Jab

Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter Freedom said he changed his mind on COVID-19 vaccination after one of his teammates pulled him aside and asked why he didn’t support personal freedom after giving a speech encouraging everyone to get the jab.

“He basically like called me out. He’s like ‘listen, you just changed your last name. That is what you said on that interview is everything you’re against, everything you stand for.’ And I stopped for a second, I think I was like ‘you know what, you’re right.’ You know, people should obviously vaccine yes, you know, save lives … but people should have freedom to choose if they want to get a vaccine,” Freedom said on The Will Cain Podcast on Wednesday.

Freedom said he is vaccinated and recently tested positive for COVID-19 after getting his booster shot, but he doesn’t believe NBA players will support a booster shot mandate.

“Players will not do a [booster] mandate, I believe. Because players are going to stand up and say ‘this is against freedom,’” Freedom said. “I know some of my really close friends around the league, there’s no way you can make them do anything like that because that’s their body, that’s their choice. … I know some of the players like the one that I talked to, there’s no way you can make him do anything and that’s his body and you have to respect that.”

Freedom said his Celtics teammates “have my back no matter what” and support his outspokenness on China’s human rights abuses and forced vaccinations. Freedom said even players on other NBA teams have thanked him for speaking out.

“One of the teammates of LeBron [James] came up to me and said, ‘keep doing what you’re doing. What you’re doing is right. Don’t give up.’ I was very shocked,” Freedom said.

Kyrie Irving Enters Coronavirus Protocol Less than 24 Hours After Rejoining the Nets

If you were looking to see Kyrie Irving back to work with the Brooklyn Nets, you had to look fast because it’s already over.

Less than 24 hours after rejoining the team part-time, the Nets announced that Irving – the league’s most outspoken anti-vax mandate proponent – had entered the NBA’s coronavirus protocols.

According to Yahoo:

The 29-year-old point guard has not played a single NBA game this season after being benched by the Nets over his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Now, Irving must return negative tests for five consecutive days before he is eligible to return to game action. Once eligible to return, however, Irving will still be unable to play in the Nets’ home games due to New York City’s COVID-19 guidelines, as he remains unvaccinated.

However, Irving is one of nine Nets players to recently test positive and the others are all vaccinated, including star forward Kevin Durant.

The Nets had planned to use Irving for road games only after the team’s seventh player entered the protocol. That decision contradicted the team’s earlier stance when they said that an unvaccinated player would not be able to participate in team activities on a “part-time basis.”

“Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose,” Nets GM Sean Marks said in October of Irving’s refusal to get vaccinated.

“Currently the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.”

No matter now, the Nets will have to wait until their next road game after Irving registers five consecutive negative tests before they can get their star guard back on the floor.

As for the immediate future, the Nets face the Magic on Saturday.

Sports Could Be A Major Force For Learning To Live With COVID

Sports Could Be A Major Force For Learning To Live With COVID

Plenty of Americans have already learned to live with COVID-19, but many posturing elites have refused to ease up on the fearmongering and protocols, and thus a chunk of largely blue America remains paralyzed by an endemic virus. After nearly two years of this maddening standoff, an unlikely liberator could break free those stuck in the COVID era and usher them into reality: sports.

It begins with the  National Basketball Association being in a bit of a bind. The NBA that toppled one of the first lockdown dominoes with its shutdown over Rudy Gobert’s COVID case back in March 2020 is the same one now threatened by that lockdown impulse as the contagious omicron variant sweeps through its rosters.

As Ethan Strauss identified in his Substack, “If we see a bit more Covid spread, the NBA’s showpiece Christmas extravaganza is very much under threat. That’s the biggest TV day in the sport, an essential element of why ESPN pays the league over a billion dollars every year. Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo now might be out for Xmas if he misses the standard 10 days and same goes for former league MVP James Harden.”

There’s more where that came from. Dozens of players are out undergoing health and safety protocols.

“The league is, in some ways, a victim of its own diligence. The NBA tests frequently and positive results trigger mandatory absences. It is getting tied into knots by its own conscientiousness, pushed by its safeguards into an institutionally unsafe position,” Strauss continued. But then he went on to suggest another path: “Unless, to save its skin, the NBA says goodbye to all that. Unless, the NBA decides to announce a massive rollback of testing protocols as part of life in a new era.”

To those who got on with their lives while watching the absurdity of the pandemic panic from afar, this possibility seems too good — and logical — to come to fruition, especially after what we saw from the National Football League on Thursday.

After objectionable protocols sent the NFL into battle with some players, including indispensable ones such as Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the football league doubled down on some of the same theater. Its new protocols include an “intensive” return to masks, strictly virtual meetings, and grab-and-go cafeteria nonsense.

It’s par for the course that the league so badly missed the mark on some protocols, but there’s one bright spot. The NFL is now changing other protocols to allow infected players who are vaccinated and asymptomatic to get back on the field more quickly.

This loosened-up return-to-play protocol offers a tiny glimpse of logic. Rather than judging an athlete’s ability to play based on whether he’s COVID positive or negative, the league is now using a metric of contagiousness, or viral load “cycle threshold,” regardless of whether the virus is still present.

“That testing can begin as soon as one day after the initial positive and could significantly shorten the amount of time a vaccinated player spends away from the team facility,” according to ESPN.

This is good news, but until the NFL reverses course on the rest of its science-defying COVID overreacting, it’s hardly a cause for celebration. The NBA, however, has a chance to implement similar return-to-play protocols — but improve on the rest. In fact, the NBA has a chance to pave another COVID path, this time out of the lockdown impulses and into a new and brighter era of learning to live with a virus that isn’t going away.

Strauss put it best:

The NBA actually has an opportunity here to end the precautionary moment, or at least signal its ebb. … The basic plan would be to test players and team officials only if they’re obviously sick (and sit said players if they test positive). And no more of the contact tracing that’s gummed up work behind the scenes of a highly mobile industry. The message could be simple: Look, we can’t functionally operate like it’s 2020; now that the disease is endemic, and vaccines are widely available, we must move into 2022.

If the NBA wants to pull through this omicron moment successfully, it should heed that advice. But the same truths apply to non-athletes: We can’t operate like it’s 2020. We must move into 2022.

The NBA should do the right thing here, not only for itself and its players but for the rest of America. The big leagues are a force to be reckoned with; let them be a force for learning to live with COVID.
