House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy on Sunday night pressed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to take action against Rep. Maxine Waters (R-CA) for “inciting violence” in remarks she made in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, this weekend.
McCarthy said that if Pelosi does not act, he intends to take action of his own against Waters for her remarks encouraging violence in Minnesota if a jury does not find former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty in his trial in the death of George Floyd.
Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week.
Waters, in her remarks to reporters at a protest in Brooklyn Center where thousands have been protesting the death of Daunte Wright, encouraged people to “take to the streets” if Chauvin is not found guilty of murder — one of the several charges he faces in his trial in Floyd’s death, which is expected to conclude this coming week.
“We’re looking for a guilty verdict,” Waters said. “And we’re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd, if nothing does not happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice. But I am very hopeful, and I hope we are going to get a verdict that says ‘guilty, guilty, guilty.’ If we don’t, we cannot go away.”

Asked in a follow-up question what protesters should do if Chauvin is not convicted of murder, Waters said, “we’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active. We’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure they know we mean business.”
Waters has a history of advocating extreme measures for political purposes. During former President Donald Trump’s administration, Waters advocated that people “harass” Trump administration officials in their daily lives.
“I have no sympathy for these people that are in this administration who know it’s wrong for what they’re doing on so many fronts,” Waters said when Trump was president. “They tend to not want to confront this president or even leave, but they know what they’re doing is wrong. I want to tell you, these members of his cabinet who remain and try to defend him, they won’t be able to go to a restaurant, they won’t be able to stop at a gas station, they’re not going to be able to shop at a department store. The people are going to turn on them. They’re going to protest. They’re going to absolutely harass them until they decide that they’re going to tell the president, ‘No, I can’t hang with you.’ This is wrong. This is unconscionable. We can’t keep doing this to children.”
It is unclear if Pelosi will do anything about this latest iteration of Waters advocating extreme measures for political purposes, but if she resists holding Waters — who is the chairwoman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee — accountable, it remains to be seen what McCarthy can do from the minority to hold Waters accountable.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Thursday told reporters that GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.), who’s under federal investigation for sex trafficking allegations, is “innocent until proven guilty” and that Gaetz will not be punished unless charges are filed.
Asked during a Thursday press conference whether the scandal-racked Florida congressman would keep his seat on the House Judiciary Committee due to its oversight of the Justice Department, the House GOP leader said: “Matt Gaetz is the same as any American, he’s innocent until proven guilty. There’s no charges against him yet. If a charge comes forward, that will be dealt with at that time.”
The House GOP leader has previously vowed to strip Gaetz of his committee assignments if the allegations against the embattled congressman are proven to be true—specifically, that he had allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, potentially facing federal sex trafficking charges if found to be true.
Gaetz has denied the allegations against him, and refuses to resign from Congress.
“I’ve spoken to Mr. Gaetz about the accusations. He’s told me he’s innocent of the accusations,” McCarthy also told reporters Thursday, adding: “I explained to Mr. Gaetz the rules inside our conference. If there was something to come forward, we would take action.”
“As of right now, Matt Gaetz says he is innocent, there’s an investigation going on and I’ll let the investigation take care of itself,” McCarthy said at another point during the press conference.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is requesting a classified briefing from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officials on terror suspects crossing the United States-Mexico border illegally.
In a letter to FBI and CIA officials, McCarthy asked that the two agencies brief him, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Vice President Kamala Harris on “the ongoing national security risk posed by the border crisis.”
This week, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials revealed that two illegal aliens from Yemen were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in January and March. Background checks showed that both were on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and the No-Fly List.
McCarthy writes in the letter:
I am writing to request a classified briefing regarding certain individuals apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol. Through conversations with the Border Patrol and media reports, I have learned of the apprehension of foreign nationals on the Terrorism Watch List who were attempting to illegally cross our southern border.
Last month, I, along with 12 other members of Congress, traveled to El Paso, Texas, to see firsthand the humanitarian and security crisis that has emerged along our southern border this year. The agents of the U.S. Border Patrol provided us with an eye-opening tour and briefings regarding the current crisis in El Paso and the operational challenges they face each day. During the briefings, the agents conveyed to us that they have apprehended individuals from not only Mexico and Central America, but also countries including China, Iran, Yemen, and Turkey. They then conveyed that they had apprehended individuals who are on the Terrorism Watch List. These revelations were shocking and concerning, and for those reasons, I felt compelled to share them with the nation. [Emphasis added]
Compounding the risk, approximately 1,000 people each day are evading capture by the U.S. Border Patrol, according to recent reporting from the Washington Post. While I am grateful to the Border Patrol for doing all they can, I have great concern about the number of bad actors that have escaped arrest and are residing in the United States. We simply have no way of knowing if other terrorists have crossed the border undetected. [Emphasis added]
After DHS sent the press release revealing that the two illegal aliens from Yemen had been apprehended at the border, the agency erased the page.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson told Breitbart News that the press release “contained certain disclosure and policy information” that “required CBP to remove it from our website.”
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki attempted to downplay the national security threat of illegal immigration at the southern border.
“First let me convey that these sets of incidents are very uncommon,” Psaki said when asked about the two illegal aliens from Yemen who were apprehended. “… while this is rare, this is a reflection of [Border Patrol] doing their job.”
Those on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List and No-Fly List seeking to cross illegally into the U.S. are not isolated incidents, as reports over the years have confirmed.
From October 2020 to the beginning of March, for example, congressional aides have said there have been at least four separate Border Patrol encounters with illegal aliens on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch List.
Likewise, in 2016, Breitbart News reported exclusively on a series of leaked documents from the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center revealing that from July 2015 to July 2016, the FBI documented more than 7,700 encounters with illegal aliens who appeared on the Terrorism Watch List. Subsequent reports show encounters numbering in the thousands annually.

Rita Hart, the Democrat, withdrew her challenge to Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) for an Iowa House seat Wednesday afternoon.
Hart has been trying to use the Committee on House Administration to overturn the state certified election in the Second Congressional District of Iowa.
This would have posed an uphill battle, as Democrats have started to back away from the partisan efforts. Breitbart News reported earlier this week, as many as nine Democrats have come forward to defect. Moderates would have had to go on the record to vote for or against the efforts if Hart’s attempt were to pass the Committee.
Hart wrote in a press release, “after many conversations with people I trust about the future of this contest, I have made the decision to withdraw my contest before the House Committee on Administration.”
“Since Election Day, and throughout this entire process, my mission has been about ensuring the voices of Iowans who followed the law are not silenced. I am saddened that some Iowans’ votes will not count through no fault of their own, she wrote. Hart went on:
Despite our best efforts to have every vote counted, the reality is that the toxic campaign of political disinformation to attack this constitutional review of the closest congressional contest in 100 years has effectively silenced the voices of Iowans. It is a stain on our democracy that the truth has not prevailed and my hope for the future is a return to decency and civility.
Running to represent the people of #IA02 in the U.S. House of Representatives has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I could not have done it without all of you. Read my statement from today here: pic.twitter.com/ustS72pWsq
She wished Miller-Meeks all the best as she serves the people of Iowa.
Kevin McCarthy was in Iowa Wednesday to rally support for Rep. Miller-Meeks with a day full of public events.
The National Republican Congressional Committee has used this to attack vulnerable Democrats who have stayed quiet on the issue.
“We are glad Rita Hart finally came to her senses and admitted the truth: the people of Iowa chose Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks to represent them in Congress,” Mike Berg, an NRCC spokesperson, said in a statement provided to Breitbart News. “We won’t let voters forget that Democrats will do whatever they can to subvert democracy if given the opportunity.”
Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) said during a press conference Wednesday that Americans should be “outraged” at House Democrats’ move to overturn the Iowa second congressional district’s results.
Miller-Meeks attended a press conference with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) in Davenport, Iowa, to discuss the House Democrats’ move to overturn Miller-Meeks’ election.
Iowa Democrat Rita Hart lost to Miller-Meeks, who won the congressional election in 2020 by six votes. After Iowa public officials certified the election, Hart petitioned the House Administration Committee to overturn the results of the election.
Miller-Meeks slammed House Democrats for trying to violate Iowa state election law.
Miller-Meeks asked rhetorically, “If our votes don’t count in Iowa, if six votes aren’t enough to win an election, then why are six members on a committee able to overturn an election?”
The Iowa Republican also noted that Hart admitted that she had to “skip over the courts and go to Congress to get the results that I need.”
Miller-Meeks said that Hart’s attorney asked the House Administration Committee to use its full discretion to depart from Iowa election law.
“No one, I don’t care where you live, what party you are, no one should be ok with violating state laws to get the results of an election that they want. We should all be outraged at that,” Miller-Meeks said.

Democrat representatives voted to kill a motion from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to remove Rep. Eric Swalwell of California from his position on the House Intelligence Committee over his relationship to a spy for communist China.
House votes to table or kill McCarthy resolution to remove Swalwell from Intel Committee
This vote was one step removed from an actual up/down vote to remove Swalwell
The vote comes shortly after McCarthy filed a resolution insisting that Swalwell abandon his position on the Intelligence Committee, which he was recently reappointed to by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, because he “has not denied public reporting that a suspected Chinese intelligence operative helped raise money for Representative Swalwell’s political campaigns and facilitated the potential assignment of interns into Representative Swalwell’s office.”
McCarthy also noted that the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation admitted in 2020 that communist China “engaged in a highly sophisticated malign foreign influence campaign” employing similar methods to those used against Swalwell.
I have filed a resolution to remove Rep. Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee.
Swalwell engaged in a years-long relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, and his conduct makes clear he has no place serving on the committee in charge of America’s top secrets. pic.twitter.com/8Tb9TOh976
Swalwell rejected McCarthy’s resolution and accused him of supporting QAnon.
Meet the New McCarthyism. Multiple sentences in resolution state “Swalwell has not denied…” Yet fails to include multiple FBI statements of “no wrongdoing” and did nothing but “cooperate.” All of this to deflect from @GOPLeader’s support for QAnon. https://t.co/2bsU72ev8H
Despite Swalwell’s insistence he did nothing wrong, a report released in December suggested that Chinese spy Christine Fang, leveraged her position and connections in California’s Bay Area for years to cultivate deep connections with U.S. Democrat politicians to gather intelligence and send it back to communist China.
Fang specifically developed a relationship with Russia hoaxer Swalwell, who began serving on the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and as a ranking member of its Central Intelligence Agency Subcommittee in 2015. Fang reportedly raised millions for Swalwell’s re-election in 2014 and placed at least one intern in his Washington, D.C. office.
Swalwell previously refused to answer The Federalist’s questions about the extent of his relationship with Fang who monitored and gathered intelligence on U.S. Democratic politicians on behalf of communist China.
When asked whether Swalwell’s position on the House Intelligence Committee would be tainted or compromised by his relationship with Fang, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff also did not reply.
Business and ethnic lobby pressure ensured that all Democrats — plus nine GOP members — voted for a huge amnesty bill that provides no offsetting benefits to working Americans.
The giveaway to migrants, businesses, and Democrats passed 228 to 197, marking a comfortable win for a high-priority Democrat agenda item.
The bill, H.R. 6, is titled “The Dream and Promise Act,” and it would provide a quick amnesty to several million migrants who have been brought to the United States as children by their illegal immigrant parents. It would also deliver green cards to several hundred thousand foreigners who were given “Temporary Protected Status” or “Deferred Enforced Departure” status.
Progressives hope the amnesty bill will give them a political lock over Texas, Florida, and other states, so pushing the GOP and its supporters into a long-term subordinate status.
The bill was supported by nine of 206 GOP members, despite a pressure campaign by GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
But the relatively small number of GOP supporters will minimize pressure on the 50 GOP Senators to vote for the citizenship giveaway.
The nine GOP members are:
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) Rep. David Valadao (R-CA) Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA) Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) Rep. Chris Smith (D-N.J) Rep. Carolos Gimenez (R-FL) Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL)
In 2019, seven GOP members vote for a similar amnesty bill, including Newshouse. He is an orchard owner in an agriculture district where the many employers rely on migrant labor. Valadao is also from an agriculture district and narrowly won his election in 2020.
Bacon’s district includes a growing population of immigrants, including former illegal migrants who took jobs in the state’s low-tech meatpacking plants. In 2020, Bacon won with a four-point margin — but President Joe Biden also won a majority of votes in the district.
The Democrats’ amnesty bill echos the progressive view that America is not a homeland for American citizens, but is instead only an idea, or only a “Nation of Immigrants,” that is open to any foreigner, regardless of what ordinary Americans prefer. The view is increasingly pushed by wealthy Americans, in part, because it boosts their stock market wealth with additional cheap workers, consumers, and renters.
Biden’s DHS chief Mayorkas says he will widen side-door migration paths for poor migrants into Americans’ jobs & housing, above the ≈1 million annual inflow set by Congress. This “extraction migration” sucks in poor people to grow Blue State economies.https://t.co/q4qYDTGdwX
Even Democrats have taken to calling the situation along the border with Mexico a crisis in recent days but they’re still afraid to admit that it’s already escalated into total chaos. There’s now proof that terrorists have been arrested while attempting to cross the wide open border.
Terrorists on the move
As The Federalist reports, “mere hours” after the liberal network media vigorously denied conservative claims that terrorists were making their way across the border into the United States, Customs and Border Protection confirmed it to Congress.
On Tuesday, they admitted that they arrested at least four who’s names appear on the no-fly list, officially called the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database.
Even more interesting is the fact that they caught more invading terrorists since the election than they usually do in an entire year.
That suggests that conservatives have been right all along when they say that Biden’s liberal open borders policies are attracting them like a magnet.
Even flamingly liberal Axios is acknowledging that three of the recent arrests were apparent terrorists from Yemen and the fourth came from Serbia.
Axios is the one to point out that outnumbers “similar people taken into custody during recent full fiscal years, according to the source.”
I am the Chairman of the Intelligence & Special Operations Subcommittee. I had a briefing 90 minutes ago. What I can say is that the IC evaluates all threats and reports. What I saw is a far cry from what we got out of the Minority Leader earlier today. https://t.co/KxTKCv3ltj
House Minority Leader Republican Kevin McCarthy sparked off an inferno of Democrat backlash when he told the press in El Paso, Texas, on Monday that “Border Patrol was arresting people from the terrorist watch list.”
He called the influx of terrorists “a national security vulnerability for the U.S.” The border patrol confirmed it.
The New World Order controlled networks immediately started “fact-checking” his claims.
They tried real hard to show indignation and call him everything from crazy to racist but not a single one of their posts could deny the facts. Terrorists are coming into the country and their policies are the driving force behind it.
Meanwhile, the Imperial Palace is strangely silent as the pile of illegal alien bodies piles up higher and higher at the border. His Wisdom refuses to acknowledge that there is any kind of a crisis at the southern border.
He can’t put the migrant kids in cages like he used to do in the old days so now they’re sending them to jail, while the adults get a free bus ride anywhere they want to go. Terrorists practically have their own travel agent. The Washington Post is still drinking the Kool-Aid. “Migrants are not overrunning U.S. border towns, despite the political rhetoric.”
A shift in the corporate world with big American companies embracing so-called “woke” leftist policies along with increased retirements among the old guard of the GOP is fueling a populist surge inside the Republican Party, a new memo from GOP insiders reveals.
The memo from CGCN, a government affairs firm staffed by top GOP insiders, is titled: “The Party They’ll Get, Not the Party They Want.”
In the memo, which has no named author, CGCN warns the “business community” that their previous allies in the Republican Party are moving on from protecting business interests to instead focusing on populist priorities of protecting American workers. As the GOP shifts downward away from the elites and towards the everyman, the memo notes, the Democrats in Washington continue their efforts to punish companies with tax hikes and regulatory burdens. In other words, companies may be left with nobody to defend them or their interests—all because they decided to abandon neutrality in favor of woke leftism, fighting culture wars that have driven Republicans away from them back toward the refreshed GOP base while Democrats will never reward them for being woke enough.
“For the business community, the news that President Biden is considering the first major tax increase since 1993 was probably unsurprising,” the CGCN memo opens. “And maybe not so troubling, given that it will be difficult to pass in a nearly evenly divided Congress. But when that news is juxtaposed to Sen. Roy Blunt’s (R-MO) recently announced retirement, it might be time for concern. The reason is straightforward: Blunt’s retirement, along with Senators Portman (R-OH), Burr (R-NC), Shelby (R-AL), and Toomey (R-PA) creates greater political space for the GOP’s younger, insurgent populists to flex their muscles. This suggests, among other things, trouble ahead for the tried-and-true coalition of Republicans and corporate America—and the issues they care about.”
That “coalition” of the GOP and corporate America, the memo continues, “reliably fought what they viewed as big government, anti-free-market policies” for “decades.” “Along with conservative talk radio and think tanks, it comprised the heart of the GOP,” the CGCN memo says. “At least on some issues, this union will likely endure for the policy fights ahead. But evidence suggests an unraveling is coming. GOP populists in Congress are often frustrated by (in their view) woke CEOs embracing avant-garde social agendas. The upshot, especially for policy, is a party increasingly unwilling to listen simultaneously to corporate priorities on, say, tax and trade policy, alongside their CEOs latest cultural forays. What does that mean for tax policy, and much else? For one thing, a party that once made cutting corporate income taxes a standard policy trope may be fading from view. Trump may be out of office, but his legacy, which GOP members indelibly embraced through letters, press releases, votes, and op-eds, lives on. In good measure thanks to Trump (and his U.S. Trade Representative, Bob Lighthizer), the GOP no longer accepts the inevitable tradeoffs of free trade and globalization.”
This is a notable memo because partners at CGCN include Sam Geduldig, a former staffer for Blunt—the retiring Missouri senator—and former House Speaker John Boehner, as well as former Trump White House adviser Michael Catanzaro. Also on the team are former Mitt Romney adviser Matt Rhoades—a heavyweight behind the scenes in GOP politics—as well as other top advisers to current and former House and Senate GOP leaders like Kevin McCarthy, Eric Cantor, Boehner, and more.
Put more simply: These guys are the insiders in the GOP who are the movers and shakers behind the scenes in Washington, and their recognition as stated in this memo that the Republican Party is ditching Wall Street and embracing Main Street—while Democrats continue their assault on American corporations and companies—is significant. Geduldig will make an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel this weekend to discuss the memo and more broadly the future of the GOP as populists and how Trump supporters seem to have won the war inside the GOP for the reins of the party.
As this shift happens, the CGCN memo argues, Republicans are less interested in protecting corporations and their wishes and more interested in pushing the needs of American workers.
“Moreover, supply-side orthodoxy, especially on spending and taxes, no longer commands the reflexive support it once did,” the memo reads. “This is not to say that Republicans favor more spending or higher taxes across the board. But for the populist GOP, ‘America First’ is about putting the ‘American worker’ before those concerned about corporate bottom lines. Longtime GOP leaders such as Sen. Blunt (think also of former Speakers Boehner and Ryan) have been squarely within the GOP’s mainstream. They represented a solid core of the party’s business-minded establishment, which enjoyed considerable influence over the party’s major economic and financial concerns.”
“But the nation’s political, economic, and cultural landscape has rapidly, and radically, changed underneath them,” it continues. “A younger generation of GOP leaders-in-waiting has seized on these changes and their implications for the party’s future. Where one sits on the political spectrum has reliably been determined by class. As these new leaders see it, that seat for Republicans is no longer ‘the country club.’ And with the party in thrall to former President Trump, and a conservative base feeling besieged by cancel culture, congressional Republicans are responding to constituents’ grievances about a country they don’t recognize. These members are growing not just in number, but in influence.”
On the other side of the internal battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Neil Bradley, the Chamber’s Executive Vice President and Chief Policy Officer, has helped the Chamber endorse a slew of House Democrats in the 2020 congressional elections. The endorsements, which were largely a wash and did not end up helping Democrats, cost the Chamber of Commerce serious credibility inside the GOP to the point where several Republicans on Capitol Hill actually refer to Bradley as “Kneel Bradley” as a joke that he kneels, or surrenders, to the left.
As Breitbart News previously reported, Bradley’s fall from grace—he used to be a top GOP insider who worked for the late former Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) as well as GOP insiders like McCarthy and Cantor—is nothing short of remarkable. The Democrat endorsements, which coincided with already waning influence of the U.S. Chamber, have turned the business community lobbying operation into a laughingstock among Republicans.
“The Chamber’s political apparatus has been destroyed,” a GOP insider told Breitbart News previously. “Donors are fleeing, no one trusts them anymore.”
The Chamber’s demise comes as its longtime top political hand Scott Reed left the organization last fall before the 2020 elections, and its president and CEO Tom Donohue stepped down this year.
Bradley has not replied to a request for comment in response to the CGCN memo and has not answered when asked about the nickname “Kneel Bradley” that Republicans use to mock him in private all over Capitol Hill. He also has not answered when offered an opportunity to come on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel this weekend after Geduldig to address his views on the future of the GOP amid the dwindling relevance of the Chamber of Commerce.
But the CGCN memo does directly confront the Chamber, citing nationally syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt—whose program often attracts top GOP insiders and tends to mirror reflect whatever powerful Republican lawmakers are thinking on any given major issue.
“Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt last week issued a remarkable broadside against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in which he tweeted, ‘The embrace of Democrats in campaigns failed, betraying its members and its legacy. Time to revolt Main Street. It’s the Chamber of Beltway Buddies, not Commerce,’” the CGCN memo continues. “Note here that Hewitt is not a right-wing firebrand, but a sober-minded member of the GOP’s establishment and a regular commentator on Meet the Press. He is conservative, no doubt, but not in league with Sean Hannity, Dan Bongino, or Mark Levin. He may have offended NBC’s corporate sponsors, but he was also playing to his listeners’ views. That he is playing at all suggests something is afoot.”
The memo continues by citing actions of a number of rising Republican stars in the Senate—from Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to Josh Hawley (R-MO) to National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Chairman Rick Scott (R-FL)—and how they reflect this growing change inside the party.
“The corporate-Main Street divide may have been a convenient cliché invoked by both parties to strike a populist note,” the memo says. “But for the GOP, it is slowly becoming a fact of political life. It might be too early to characterize this churn as some grand ‘realignment.’ But it’s safe to say that the likes of Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), and Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) are more aligned with the party’s conservative base on key economic issues than the Republican generation that preceded them. Hawley, Scott, Blackburn and others have tapped into the party’s anti-Big Business bent, which seems relatively indifferent to an increase in capital gains and corporate income taxes.”
It then concludes by highlighting a minimum wage hike plan that Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) offered recently as a counter to Democrats’ efforts to do so. Cotton’s and Romney’s proposal would hike the minimum wage to $10 an hour nationally but pair that with a national E-Verify program barring companies from hiring illegal aliens. The CGCN memo states that this would have been a significant development years ago, but now seems run-of-the-mill.
“With this bill, the party’s 2012 presidential nominee (Romney) joined a leading 2024 Republican presidential candidate (Cotton) on a bill requiring a federal minimum wage hike, with immigration policy opposed by corporations,” the CGCN memo says. “Once upon a time, this would have been unthinkable, but it is now fairly unremarkable.”
As a result of all of this, CGCN concludes, the business community must rethink how it handles Republicans—and how it handles “woke” leftist culture war matters—or else be left behind by policymakers in America.
“Whether on issues related to technology and social media, immigration, taxes, trade, and much else, congressional Republicans—many of whom are under the age of 50—are gravitating more and more to the views and demands of their conservative base,” the memo finishes. “As noted, ‘woke-ism’ is a central target of GOP voters, and their younger leaders are attacking what they perceive is its unholy grip on the nation’s major social, cultural, and economic institutions. It’s not clear what this tendency suggests over the long-term, but for now, the business community needs to rethink how it engages the GOP on issues they consider fundamental. Because their list of priorities and the GOP’s may not always overlap in the same way it once did.”
Republican leaders are spotlighting the heartbreak, costs, and chaos caused by President Joe Biden’s promise to welcome poor economic migrants who can survive the long trek to the United States border.
“It’s more than a crisis,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said March 15 in a TV-ready press conference at the border:
This is a human heartbreak. The sad part about all this — it didn’t have to happen. This crisis is created by the presidential policies of this new administration. There’s no other way to it than a Biden border crisis.
As each wave of migrants leaves to accept the progressives’ dangled dollars, the left-behind children feel the emotional loss of absent parents, experience political and economic stagnation in their towns, and soon submit to the American dollar’s gravitational control over their lives and status.
Here are seven examples of migrants who tried — or still want to try — to accept Biden’s invite to the Hunger Games-style obstacle course to the Golden Side-doors:
The New York Times reported March 14 from the U.S.-Mexico border:
Jenny Contreras, a 19-year-old Guatemalan mother of a 3-year-old girl, collapsed in a seat as Mr. Valenzuela handed out hand sanitizer.
“I did not make it,” she sobbed into the phone as she spoke with her husband, a butcher in Chicago.
“Biden promised us!” wailed another woman.
Many of the migrants said they had spent their life savings and gone into debt to pay coyotes — human smugglers — who had falsely promised them that the border was open after President Biden’s election. Still, the migrants keep coming, and many officials believe the numbers could be bigger than those seen in recent years, after the pandemic and recent natural disasters in Central America wiped away livelihoods.
Progressives (& biz) cheerlead the ‘Hunger Games’ obstacle-course trail that delivers migrants to the US, despite Americans’ expectation for a capped & orderly immig system. The trail inflicts much damage & death, but progressives demand diversity first.https://t.co/90s5dnQQ4l
REYNOSA, Mexico — Nicole, 15, and Joshua, 13, grew up with a photo of their mom in the living room and a promise that one day they would see her again.
Their mother left El Salvador for Maryland when they were toddlers, unsure how long she would stay, certain only that she had to leave if she were ever to pry her family out of poverty. Twelve years later, she had saved enough money — the smuggler charged more than $10,000 — for her kids to travel north.
On Dec. 14, a few yards south of the U.S. border on an international bridge where the smuggler had left them, Mexican police stopped the pair. “I begged them, ‘Please, please let us pass,’” Nicole said through tears. “But instead they brought us here.”
Until then, Nicole and Joshua — who gave only their first names for fear they could be identified if returned to El Salvador — had thought of their own journey as a two-person exodus, not part of a flow, a surge or a crisis. They are now among more than 700 children who have wound up at the Center for Attention to Border Minors in Reynosa, just south of McAllen, Tex., since December. Nearly all of those unaccompanied children were detained by Mexican soldiers or police before they could present themselves to U.S. immigration agents.
On January 30, the Los Angeles Timesreported the deaths of 19 migrants killed by gunmen as they approached the cartel-controlled U.S.-Mexico border. The victims included 15-year-old Robelson Isidro:
He earned just $3 a day toiling in the coffee fields around Comitancillo, a largely indigenous town in Guatemala’s western highlands. With a few years of American wages, he hoped to buy the family a house.
The [Guatemalan] community has a long history of sending migrants to the United States, and [Isidro] had uncles who lived there. They had indoor kitchens. They didn’t have to cook outside under a tarp.
“He was ashamed,” his mother said in a phone interview. She said he told her: “I’m going to fight to make my dreams come true. I have to get my siblings ahead in life. I’m going to get them out of poverty.”
The Los Angles Timesreported February 26 on Douglas, a young Guatemalan man who sought to join his father who had migrated to Los Angeles five years ago:
The smuggler was long gone; though Douglas yelled and yelled, no one came. The 21-year-old and a dozen other migrants already had been wandering in the desolate desert landscape around Van Horn, Texas, for two days when the snowstorm began.
When he heard cries for help off in the distance, Douglas left the others and set off in the dark to try and find a man who’d become separated from the group. He came upon the older man and put his arm over his shoulder, dragging him through the snow until he finally stumbled on a road and couldn’t go any farther, he said.
Then, out of the blackness, he heard officials telling him: “Open your eyes, open your eyes.” When he finally could open them, he was in a hospital bed in El Paso, about 110 miles from where he was found unconscious. What he saw were his frostbitten hands: swollen to the size of baseball gloves; fingers lumpy and gray; oozing, raw skin seemingly ready to fall off in chunks.
Healthcare workers at the University Medical Center of El Paso told Douglas’ lawyer and his uncle Joel, who’d traveled from San Francisco, that his hands probably need to be amputated.
On March 15, the Los Angeles Timesreported on the deaths of 13 migrants who packed themselves into an SUV racing northwards from the border. The victims included a prosperous young woman training to be a lawyer:
Yesenia Magali Melendrez Cardona told her father she wanted to follow in his footsteps. He had made the trek from Guatemala to the U.S. 15 years earlier in search of a new life. In February, she left a job and her [legal] studies behind and headed north.
Chiquimulilla, the town where she had spent her 23 years, had been ravaged by the pandemic. Unemployment was rising. The population was desperate. The streets were too dangerous to walk at night.
A maroon Ford Expedition bore a suspected smuggler and 24 people racing toward what they hoped would be safety. Yesenia and her mother, Verlyn Cardona, were wedged in the back when it drove through a breach in the fence separating Mexico from California. It was broadsided by a semi hauling two empty trailers. It came to a stop, windshield shattered at the intersection of Highway 115 and Norrish Road.
Seventeen passengers were ejected from the SUV. When Verlyn regained consciousness in the back of the crumpled vehicle, her daughter was sprawled across her legs. Dead.
The last time Melendrez saw and hugged his daughter, she was 6. Although he was in another country, he said, the two remained in close contact.
The Wall Street Journalreported from Guatemala on March 9:
“People here say it is a good moment to leave, to be at the border,” said Ms. [Gloria] Velásquez, 32. “The rumor is that children are allowed to enter.”
She said she has been considering going with her 10-year-old daughter Helen Ixchel, or sending her alone.
Usually the family finds a “trusted person” in the community, who is often a deported migrant who knows the route well, to bring the children to the border, with the hopes they can reunite with relatives in the U.S., Ms. Velásquez said. But she said she has been postponing the decision as she considers the journey to be too dangerous.
On March 11 Vice reported the story of a Cuban migrant who was kidnapped at the U.S. border after spending months trekking through the South American jungles:
MATAMOROS, Mexico — The men knelt on the floor side by side, heads down, hands behind their backs, while a man with his face covered waved a gun wildly in their faces. “Call her,” the man with the gun instructed one of them. “On speakerphone.”
“Listen, honey,” the man frantically said when his wife picked up, before the man with the gun snatched the phone away.
“I have your husband and his friend,” he snarled. “I want you to make a deposit for $4,000. I’ll send you the account number. If you don’t do it, I’ll kill him.”
VICE World News has obtained footage of this kidnapping, which shows two political asylum seekers from Cuba pleading for their lives.
One experience is seared in his memory: A Haitian woman lay on the jungle floor dying from thirst, begging the Cuban to give her water. But he couldn’t; he needed the water if he was going to survive. “Every time I close my eyes, it’s like I relive that moment. It’s lacerating to see a person die. The sense of guilt is overwhelming.”
GOP legislators are learning to blame Biden and his progressives for the harm to migrants after three years watching while Democrats and their allies in the media magnified the “kids in cages” problem to animate Democrat voters in the 2020 election.
“We are a compassionate nation, but lawlessness is not compassion,” Rep. Michael Cloud (R-TX) said at McCarthy’s press conference, adding:
Aiding and abetting cartels is not compassion. Putting in policies that allow them to abuse women on the journey is not compassion. Allowing them to grow and be funded into a destabilizing force in these [Central American] nations that are trying to thrive and survive and create a thriving economy for their people is not compassion
We have turned the people who’ve signed up to protect our border into the last mile delivery system of the cartel migrant human trafficking organization… We can fix this, we can secure our border, we can protect the lives of these people, and we can keep this nation strong and help push back the cartel influence in our nation and throughout Central and South America.
GOP leaders get their own “Kids in Cages” emotional pitch — showing how Biden’s progressives inflict massive suffering on migrants during the trek to the side doors that progrsvs are opening in the border. Progsvs also wreck the migrants’ home countries https://t.co/JJBP13L5Zi
