Will the west give weapons to Palestinians to fend off Israeli aggression?

Will the west give weapons to Palestinians to fend off Israeli aggression?

Letter to the Editor

So Europe has decided to flood The Ukraine with weapons to assist the helpless non-Russian Ukrainians against the Russian Ukrainians? It’s imposed massive sanctions and even shot itself in the arm and the leg to do so. I see!

What about flooding Palestine with some of those weapons too? To help the Syrians and Palestinians to fend off the occupiers of their lands?

Israelis are occupying Syria’s Golan Heights and the West Bank and the rest of Palestine for decades! They have unilaterally declared it ISRAELI land, with America’s blessings. In Ghaza they’re even running the most massive open air concentration camp in history.

So how has that “Western” show been encouraged by the West for decades, together with other shows in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Africa, Vietnam, Laos, Grenada, Central and South Americas, etc., but not in Ukraine?

So much for their version of global peace. It’s one big mother of all gaslight shows and we’re right in the thick of it. It’s time to open your windows and let some fresh air in, folks.

About Editor, cairnsnews

One of the few patriots left who understands the system and how it has been totally subverted under every citizen’s nose. If we can help to turn it around we will, otherwise our children will have nothing. Our investigations show there is no ‘government’ of the people for the people of Australia. The removal of the Crown from Australian Parliaments, followed by the incorporation of Parliaments aided by the Australia Act 1987 has left us with corporate government with policies not laws, that apply only to members of political parties and the public service. There is no law, other than the Common Law. This fact will be borne out in the near future as numerous legal challenges in place now, come to a head soon.

Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) is reiterating its call for Canada to support an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into the killing of veteran Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, amid growing and overwhelming evidence of Israeli responsibility. In May, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly had called for a “thorough investigation” into the incident, but Israel’s recent military probe has failed to find any responsibility, despite admitting that Israeli forces most likely killed her. CJPME argues that Canadian support for an ICC investigation is necessary due to the inability and unwillingness of Israel to hold itself accountable.

“The evidence that Shireen Abu Akleh was deliberately killed by Israeli forces is overwhelming and undeniable. This was an assassination,” said Michael Bueckert, Vice President of CJPME.

“If Canada’s words are to mean anything, it must give its full support to the efforts by Abu Akleh’s family and others to seek justice at the ICC,” added Bueckert.

Earlier this month, an Israeli military probe admitted that there was a “high probability” that Israeli soldiers killed Abu Akleh, but declined to open a criminal investigation. In response, Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid reaffirmed that he would “not allow” any soldier to be prosecuted. Meanwhile this week, Forensic Architecture and Al-Haq published the results of a forensic investigation which concluded that Israeli soldiers had targeted Abu Akleh “deliberately and explicitly,” and found that there were no Palestinian gunmen or crossfire in the area – completely debunking Israel’s claims that the incident could have been an accident. These findings reinforce the conclusions of previous investigations by Bellingcat, CNN, the Washington Post, and the Associated Press, which indicated that Abu Akleh was targeted by Israeli forces on purpose.

In another development this week, an official complaint over Shireen Abu Akleh’s killing was submitted to the International Criminal Court by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP), and Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), on behalf of Abu Akleh’s family. Similar initiatives have previously been announced by the Palestinian foreign ministry and Al Jazeera. CJPME notes that while Canada has formerly opposed the ICC investigation into alleged war crimes in Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), it has offered enthusiastic support to the ICC’s investigation in Ukraine, including by sending a team of RCMP officers. CJPME urges Canada to drop this double standard and accept the jurisdiction of the ICC over the OPT, and to give its full support to an ICC investigation into Abu Akleh’s death.

Don’t Buy The Historically Illiterate ‘Backlash’ Over Marvel’s Israeli Superhero

Don’t Buy The Historically Illiterate ‘Backlash’ Over Marvel’s Israeli Superhero

At the D23 Expo this week, Marvel announced that “Captain America: New World Order” will feature Sabra, an Israeli superhero, to be played by Shira Haas. And, naturally, journalists began highlighting voices of progressive “anti-Zionists” with negligible social media followings to gin up controversy (most of the Twitter accounts numbered in hundreds; though Vulture did find one person with 2,000.) “Marvel’s new Israeli forces superhero Sabra is beyond problematic” says The Independent. “Though we know little about Sabra’s storyline in the Captain America franchise, we know the comics from which Sabra originates and the enemies who she usually fights.”

It only takes a quick bit of research to learn Sabra’s first comic cameo was in “Incredible Hulk” No. 250 in August 1980 and her first full edition was “Incredible Hulk” No. 256 in February 1981—more than a year before the Sabra and Shatila massacre. “Sabra” is slang for a native-born Israeli. First popularized by Jewish author Edna Ferber in her novel “Cimarron” in the late 1920s, the superhero’s name was apparently the idea of Marvel writer Mark Gruenwald’s wife. We should note that Marvel’s founder, Martin Goodman, was Jewish, as was the creator of the Hulk, Stan Lee (Stanley Martin Lieber), and Captain America’s creators Joe Simon (born Hymie Simon) and Jack Kirby (born Jacob Kurtzberg). But apparently a Jewish superhero is beyond the pale, as it were.

The backlash boils down to accusing Israelis of being colonizers and claiming that name Sabra “is particularly insensitive,” as Vulture put it, because “it calls to mind the Sabra and Shatila massacre.” Does it? Sabra is also the name of a billion-dollar food concern that controls more than 50 percent of the American hummus market. Thoughts and prayers to all of you reminded of 40-year-old factional violence in Lebanon when passing that container of avocado-flavored chickpea dip at the supermarket.

By the way, I have little doubt Marvel is going to use Sabra to teach audiences vacuous lessons on the human condition and Middle East. The comics already did. In “Incredible Hulk” No. 256 — “Power and Peril in the Promised Land!” — the “Hulk finds himself in the crossfire of the Israelis and the Arabs! Will Banner’s compassion for a fallen child soften Sabra’s heart?”

In the comic, Bruce Banner befriends an Arab Israeli boy, who laments the situation in the Holy Land. “Both my people and the Israelis say that this land is theirs. They could share it, but two very old books tell them they must kill each other over it,” the kid tells Banner. Soon, the unfortunate boy is murdered in a terrorist bombing. Hulk smash! When the cold-hearted Sabra, a policewoman named Ruth Bat-Seraph during the day, shows up at the scene, she sees the dead boy — grasping for the first time that Arabs are humans, too! — and erroneously blames the Hulk for the carnage. But before any “circle of violence” allegory can ensue, the Hulk offers his views on the situation. “Boy died because boy’s people & yours both want to own land! Boy died because you wouldn’t share! Boy died because of two old books that say his people & yours must fight and kill for land! Now boy is dead – but boy didn’t even read books!”

Didn’t even read books.

Anyway, an average Marvel fan reading about the backlash over Sabra might be led to believe that Israelis, rather than Maronite Christians, had massacred hundreds of Palestinians in 1982. They may never know that the murders were reprisals for numerous Muslim atrocities against Christians — in particular, the assassination of then-president Bashir Gemayel and two dozen of his followers. They may never know that among the 19 massacres of the Lebanese Civil War, the 1982 killings were far from the worse (in 1976, somewhere up to 5,000 were killed at Tel al-Zaatar by Phalangists) or even the worst to happen at Sabra and Shatila (in 1985, 3,781 people were murdered.) The only reason the 1982 Sabra and Shatila matter is that it could be blamed on Israel.

And, indeed, Israel made a tragic mistake allowing the Phalange to enter Sabra and Shatila, ostensibly to shut down Palestinian terror cells. There was widespread outrage and huge demonstrations in Israel after the incident. The Israeli government set up The Kahan Commission, which found that the army had been indirectly responsible for the massacre because army leaders had failed to foresee the violence. The political fallout would lead to numerous resignations, including that of Defense Minister Ariel Sharon. (Can anyone imagine Palestinians taking responsibility for the lives of Israelis in 1982? Or most governments? Even today, Fatah pays bounties for Jewish lives.)

Movies about Israel have been notoriously terrible, both on historical and moral grounds. The worst in recent memory was Steven Spielberg’s insufferably sanctimonious “Munich,” a near-completely fictional retelling of the operation to hunt down the terrorists who murdered Israeli Olympic athletes in 1972. The director reimagined heroes as emotional wrecks who grapple with a bunch of leftist pieties. But what makes these films, and the stupid controversies that surround them, so destructive is that they doubtlessly mislead people otherwise uninterested in history.

Trans Women are NOT Women: New UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’s Record on Social Issues

Trans Women are NOT Women: New UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’s Record on Social Issues

Incoming UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has an encouraging (albeit mixed) record on issues that matter to Christians. Notably, she is a strong opponent of radical gender theory and cancel culture and a diligent supporter of free speech.

The ABC has described her as “the next Margaret Thatcher”. A former social progressive who once called for the abolition of the monarchy, Liz Truss is now set to become the country’s fifty-sixth Prime Minister after she won the Conservative Party’s leadership contest.

Here is Liz Truss’s record on a number of key issues, including LGBTQ policy, faith and practice, free speech and identity politics, and Israel.

LGBTQ Issues

According to TheyWorkForYou, a political voting record tracker, Truss has never voted against “LGBTQ+ rights”. She voted for a degendered definition of marriage in 2013.

However, she has also faced severe criticism from more radical elements of the LGBTQ lobby.

LGBTQ advocate blog Pink News lamented:

“Truss has repeatedly failed to advance LGBTQ+ rights in any meaningful way since she joined the equalities office in 2019.”

As a part of her role, Truss scrapped Theresa May’s LGBTQ advisory panel, something she has apparently faced criticism over.

Perhaps more significantly, however, she has campaigned for the withdrawal of government departments from the “controversial” Stonewall “diversity champions” LGBTQ program, a program that allegedly provided “unlawful advice on transgender issues”.

Nonetheless, the most notable “failure” on her part to advocate LGBTQ rights has been on transgender issues specifically.

When asked outright whether transgender “women” are actually women, Truss said no. Encouragingly, she also recognised that “under-18s shouldn’t be able to make irreversible decisions about their own future”.

Moreover, Truss has been responsible for excluding transgenderism from planned “conversion therapy” legislation as well as for scrapping proposals for transgender “self-identification” on birth certificates.

Faith & Practice

When asked about her personal faith, Truss said the following:

“I share the values of the Christian faith and the Church of England, but I’m not a regular practising religious person.”

Sadly, however, some of Truss’s actions evidence the fact that her faith exists only at a “values” or cultural level, rather than at a heart level.

In 2004 and 2005, she was involved in an extramarital affair with a married man for eighteen months. Despite this, her marriage with Hugh O’Leary survived, and, according to Truss, became stronger.

Free Speech & Cancel Culture

Truss has strong opinions on cancel culture, identity politics and so-called “woke”-ism. She has urged conservatives to “reject the zero-sum game of identity politics, we reject the illiberalism of cancel culture, and we reject the soft bigotry of low expectations that holds so many people back”.

She told the Telegraph that she “fundamentally” disagrees with identity politics:

“I don’t agree with the idea that you should have different policies for women or men. What I think is you should make sure your policies are accessible to everybody, so you should be, in the criminal justice system, making sure women are being treated fairly, gay people are being treated fairly, black people are being treated fairly.

If you have a separate women’s ministry, you’re looking at people through the lens of being women. The thing I care about … is your ideas, your talent, your work ethic. I don’t care whether you’re a woman or a man, and that’s the approach I take.”

Reflecting on the backlash against Labor MP Rosie Duffield, who was accused of “transphobia” for stating that women have cervixes, Truss said the following:

“She is right that women have cervixes, but more than that, she’s also right to be able to express her view, and I’m a huge believer in free speech. And I think when we try and sort of brush things under the carpet and can’t have an honest, honest and sensible debate, I think that’s a huge problem for British politics.”

Truss has been a leader in something of a counter-offensive against woke politics within the Tory leadership.

Israel & Palestine

Beyond her positions on identity politics and free speech, Truss also stands in solidarity with Israel. She has committed to reopening the possibility of moving the British Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

As Foreign Secretary she made the following statements:

“I understand the importance and sensitivity of the location of the British Embassy in Israel. I’ve had many conversations with my good friend Prime Minister Yair Lapid on this topic. Acknowledging that, I will review a move to ensure we are operating on the strongest footing within Israel.”

She supports Israel’s right to defend itself, particularly highlighting threats from terrorist groups and the state of Iran.

“The UK stands by Israel and its right to defend itself. We condemn terrorist groups firing at civilians and violence which has resulted in casualties on both sides. We call for a swift end to the violence.”

As Foreign Secretary, she was also responsible for a new deal with Israel that covered “trade, defense and tech”, making Israel a “tier one” partner with the United Kingdom.

Despite a somewhat mixed record on certain issues, Liz Truss certainly seems likely to stand strong on issues around free speech, cancel culture, identity politics and radical gender theory. Continue to keep her in your prayers.
