Biden Breaks Out Veto Pen for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Soft on Crime Bills

President Joe Biden will reportedly issue the first vetoes of his term this week in the wake of Congress passing the resolution to overturn the D.C. soft-on-crime bill and the bill to scrap his administration’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Rule.

As Breitbart News reported, Republicans and moderate Democrats helped to pass a bill  that would nullify Biden’s ESG rule, or the Department of Labor’s “Prudence and Loyalty in Selecting Plan Investments and Exercising Shareholder Rights” rule.

Two Senate Democrats, Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), voted with Republicans to pass the resolution.

The resolution passed swiftly through the House on Tuesday. The resolution will soon go to Biden’s desk, where he is likely vto veto the bill. This would be the first veto of Biden’s presidency.

ESG is the latest vector through which the federal government, Wall Street asset managers, and activist investors push private companies to adopt leftist positions such as combatting climate change, advocating racial justice, and diversity requirements. Breitbart News has cataloged just a few of the incidents in which activist asset managers such as BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street push companies to adopt controversial views.

Likewise, moderate Democrats also joined with Republicans to overturn a soft-on-crime bill that recently became law in the nation’s capital

“The District’s criminal law, which reduced punishments for a variety of serious criminal offenses, was enacted by the District’s city council, which overrode the mayor’s veto — all while crime soared at the beginning of 2023,” noted Breitbart News. “According to the Metropolitan Police Department, homicides have dramatically increased (25 percent), along with vehicle theft (111 percent), theft from auto (21 percent), and theft (16 percent).”

Congress retains the ability to override local D.C. law if it issues a resolution of disapproval; it has not exercised that right in 30 years, signifying the deep divide on issues of crime.

Regardless, President Joe Biden will issue a veto of the bill, a first for his presidency after Republicans retained control of the U.S. House this past November.

“President Joe Biden will soon be in a position to issue his first veto, after moderate Senate Democrats helped Republicans pass a measure that would undo an environmental and social investing rule,” noted Politico.

Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), who faces a tough reelection campaign in 2024, said that the ESG rule puts too much of a burden on working families. He said in a statement:

At a time when working families are dealing with higher costs, from health care to housing, we need to be focused on ensuring Montanans’ retirement savings are on the strongest footing possible. I’m opposing this Biden Administration rule because I believe it undermines retirement accounts for working Montanans and is wrong for my state.

In its veto threat this week, the Biden administration said that undoing the ESG rule would “unnecessarily limit the options available to retirement plan participants and investors.” Likewise, it said that the congressional move to overturn the soft-on-crime bill would detract from D.C. residents’ right to self-govern.

“For far too long, the 700,000 residents of Washington, DC, have been deprived of full representation in the U.S. Congress,” the administration said.

Open borders activists are balking at red states taking immigration enforcement into their own hands by busing border crossers and illegal aliens to blue states and cities like New York and Washington, DC.

In April, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced that state officials would begin chartering buses to transport border crossers and illegal aliens to Washington, DC, and other cities.

As a result, Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser is asking President Joe Biden to deploy the National Guard after she said about 4,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in the region over the last few weeks.

Illegal immigration to D.C., Bowser said, is at a “tipping point.” Similarly, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has warned New Yorkers that illegal immigration to the city is likely to cripple the healthcare system and infrastructure as well as overwhelm schools and neighborhoods.

Now, mass migration activists argue that Abbott’s order may not be legal.

“There are ongoing questions about what authority they have to bus people from one location to another,” Aaron Reichlin-Melnick with the American Immigration Council told the Texas Tribune. “Legally speaking, is that immigration enforcement? I still don’t know.”

The number of border crossers and illegal aliens arriving in D.C. and New York City pales in comparison to those arriving in America’s small border communities.

In Texas border towns, alone, nearly 130,000 border crossers and illegal aliens were caught crossing the border in June. Most recently, in the small town of Normandy, Texas — with a population of just 29 residents — about 400 border crossers and illegal aliens crossed into the area this month.

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), a proponent of sanctuary city policy, has activated the National Guard as she says the region is at an illegal immigration “tipping point” with about 4,000 border crossers and illegal aliens arriving in recent weeks.

On Thursday, Bowser announced that she had activated the D.C. National Guard to “help lead that effort” in dealing with waves of illegal immigration to the region where border crossers and illegal aliens are taking full advantage of President Joe Biden’s expansive Catch and Release operation.

“We are very focused and we continue to be very focused on having the federal government do its part and take the lead in addressing what we see as a growing humanitarian crisis. … We’re going to continue to pursue federal involvement,” Bowser said.

“We need space and we need the federal government to be involved so I’ve asked for the deployment of the Guard as long as we need the Guard to deal with the humanitarian crisis that we expect to escalate,” Bowser continued.

The reported 4,000 border crossers and illegal aliens who have arrived in D.C. in recent weeks is a fraction of the total that American border communities face every day.

The pro-sanctuary mayor said “the number of people crossing the border … we expect to only go up” and thus the Biden administration should implement “a national response.”

The Biden administration’s response, though, has been to hugely expand its Catch and Release capabilities, ensuring that at least 7,100 border crossers and illegal aliens arrive at the United States-Mexico border every day — a crippling figure for American border communities.

Part of that Catch and Release operation is paroling thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. every day. The process has ensured that from February 2021 to May 2022, more than a million border crossers and illegal aliens have been released into American communities.

As Washington, DC, witnesses, mass immigration has real pocketbook costs for Americans. In D.C., waves of illegal immigration will likely spike housing costs even higher for residents. Already, 800-square-foot apartments in D.C. are going for nearly $3,000 a month.

Research conducted at the University of Pennsylvania found that “an immigration inflow equal to 1 percent of a city’s population is associated with increases in average rents and housing values of about 1 percent.”

In New York City, New York, Mayor Eric Adams (D) — also a proponent of sanctuary city policy — has said that residents must get “on board” with illegal immigration straining their public schools, hospitals, infrastructure, housing costs, and neighborhoods.

“Our schools are going to be impacted, our healthcare system is going to be impacted, our infrastructure is going to be impacted. … We’re going to need all New Yorkers to be with us on this,” Adams said.

Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee have slipped a Capitol Hill jobs plan for illegal aliens enrolled in former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program into a government funding package.

As part of their legislative funding package for the 2023 fiscal year, House Democrats are hoping to reward DACA illegal aliens by allowing them to take jobs in Washington, DC, on Capitol Hill.

The move would be expansive, as it would likely place DACA illegal aliens in the offices of Democrats in the House and Senate.

The language of the provision reads:

For years, Democrats have sought to ensure that DACA illegal aliens can take coveted Capitol Hill jobs. Last year, for instance, they advanced a similar plan through the House, but it ultimately stalled.

As Breitbart News reported, from 2012 to 2018, more than 53,000 illegal aliens were awarded DACA status despite having prior arrest records, including for crimes like murder, kidnapping, rape, child pornography, and sex crimes.

Currently, the nation’s largest multinational corporations — represented by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — are lobbying Washington, DC, lawmakers to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens enrolled and eligible for DACA.

A Metropolitan Police Department officer and multiple civilians were wounded when shots were fired Sunday around 6 p.m. during a Juneteenth event in Washington, DC.

FOX News reports that the shots rang out during “Moechella, which is described as an ‘Advocacy Festival Amplifying the Culture of Washington DC.’”

WTOP points out that the Moechella festival is part of D.C.’s Juneteenth celebration.

WDVM notes that police are searching for “a black male about 5’4″ with curly hair wearing all black.”

The wounded officer is in stable condition.

Restriction-Heavy DC, New York Report Highest Coronavirus Cases Per Capita in U.S.

Restriction-heavy Washington, DC, and New York are reporting the highest daily average of coronavirus cases per capita in the United States, Tuesday’s data found.

According to the New York Times‘s coronavirus data tracker, D.C. leads the U.S. in reporting the highest daily average of coronavirus cases per 100,000, clocking in at 279. Blue New York follows with 175 cases per capita.

While the majority of the country appears to be experiencing a winter surge in cases, both restriction-heavy areas are still reporting more cases per capita than Florida, which is reporting 113 per capita. The Sunshine State has never had a mask mandate in place, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and the state legislature took action this year, providing protections for workers who faced losing their job over vaccine mandates. 

Meanwhile, New York, once the U.S. epicenter of the virus, endured extended lockdowns and now faces further restrictions, as Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) recently issued an ultimatum to businesses. Under her rule, businesses either need to check the vaccination status of patrons or require masks across the board. While some counties have said that they will not comply with the rule, Hochul promised millions in assistance to those following her orders. Her office backtracked last week after the Democrat governor suggested that the state would also send state inspectors to provide “spot checks” for counties to ensure compliance. Her office later clarified that enforcement will be done “by local health departments.”

New York City, specifically, is under even more stringent rules thanks to Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is now mandating vaccines on private sector employees and requiring children as young as 5 to provide proof of vaccination in order to participate in basic activities, such as dining at an indoor restaurant.

In D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) recently reintroduced coronavirus restrictions as well, reinstating the city’s mask mandate yet again, which will last at least until January 31, 2022:

Additionally, Bowser is now forcing “all employees, contractors, interns, and grantees of DC Government” to be fully vaccinated and boosted, with “no test-out option” available.

Psychiatrist Sally Satel: ‘Very Concerned’ About Critical Race Theory Infiltrating Mental Health Care

Sally Satel, a psychiatrist who is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, described how the left-wing social justice agenda is making its way into mental health and counseling programs.

“Until roughly five years ago, people seeking mental health care could expect their therapists to keep politics out of the office,” Satel wrote in a Substack column published last week. “But as counselor education programs and professional organizations across the country embrace a radical social justice agenda, that bedrock principle of neutrality is crumbling. Mental health professionals—mainly counselors and therapists—are increasingly replacing evidence-driven therapeutics with ideologically motivated practice and activism.”

Critical race theory, once a fringe academic movement based on systemic racism and judging people based on racial identity, has made its way into institutions across the United States. Satel, who is also a visiting professor at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, provided several examples of how the dogma is apparent in psychotherapy.

The professor notes how “anti-racism” training has become “impossible to ignore” in the counseling field. For instance, the University of Vermont’s graduate counseling program aims to “structurally align” its framework with the group Black Lives Matter.

Likewise, when George Floyd died last year, the counseling center at Johns Hopkins University called for people to “consider us one of many resources in the difficult but necessary work of engaging with internalized bias, recognizing privilege, and aligning values of anti-racism and allyship with embodied and sustained practice.”

“Central to the ideology that’s creeping into the field of mental health care is a growing aversion to recognizing personal responsibility and agency,” Satel wrote. “One colleague of mine who works in a prominent psychiatry department told me that during a group discussion of the growing problem of stress and suicide in black youth, her colleagues were unwilling to discuss explanations that pointed to factors coming from within beleaguered communities.”

But while the prominent psychiatrist described the many left-wing developments in her field, she also “feel[s] stirrings of optimism” due to the launch of a group called the International Association of Psychology and Counseling (IAPC). IAPC is a non-profit group “dedicated to excellence in education and clinical practice.”

The founder, clinical mental health counseling professor Brian S. Canfield at Florida Atlantic University, intends to have the group assist counseling to go back to “its roots of liberal education” as well as to “professionalism where advocacy should be the domain of individual conscience, not one’s professional identity.”

Cuba Protesters Covered in ‘Blood’ Stage Die-In Outside of White House

Three adults and two children dressed in “Young Pioneer” uniforms laid in front of the White House in Washington, DC, on Saturday covered in “blood” and draped in Cuban flags, demanding the U.S. government help anti-communist protesters.

The uniforms are those used in Cuban schools; “Young Pioneers” are children who excel in communist indoctrination programs at a young age and receive advanced education and benefits, recognizable by their red kerchiefs. “Pioneer” programs are common in all communist countries.

As several hundred #SOSCuba protesters chanted “Freedom for Cuba” outside the gates of President Joe Biden’s home on Pennsylvania Avenue, a small group of protesters performed what is called a “die-in” to represent Cubans slain by Cuba’s brutal communist regime. As they laid still on the concrete, the protesters were surrounded by signs.

“You’re sitting by while we die,” one of the signs read. “Cuba’s blood is on your hands,” another read.

Protesters came from all over the country, including groups who bused from Miami to D.C., to participate in the demonstration. Protests have sparked in the U.S. and around the world since thousands of Cubans took to the streets in Cuba last Sunday and throughout the week, calling for the end of Fidel Castro’s 62-year dictatorship. While Castro himself died in 2016, the Castro family continues to control the island through its domination of the military.

The news of protests in Cuba spread via social media before the Cuban government shut down the island’s internet. More than 40 municipalities have participated so far, making it the largest anti-government protest on the island in decades.

Since protests in Cuba began, police have opened fire on crowds and beaten people in the streets. Independent media confirmed the arrests of at least 5,000 people so far, Breitbart News reported. Current figurehead President Miguel Díaz-Canel openly called on civilians to violently attack protesters on the streets in an “order of combat” issued late Sunday.

Breitbart News spoke with several protesters, many of whom came from Cuba directly or have family who did. The protesters warned of communism in the United States and spoke of atrocities in Cuba, including how young adults and teens are being forcefully taken from their homes by the government and made to fight against their own family and friends.

Demonstrators in D.C. cloaked themselves in Cuban and American flags and called on the Biden Administration to intervene in Cuba to put an end to the grave human rights abuses being perpetrated by the Cuban government.

Many protesters held signs on Saturday condemning Biden for his inaction so far.

“Biden, history will remember how you turn your back to Cuba & all the Cubans who voted for you,” one sign read.

Other signs insisted Biden take military action rather than engage in talks with a murderous regime.

“Joe Biden, we need military intervention in Cuba, not dialogue or business with the fucking government,” another sign read.

Protesters around the U.S. who have joined the Cuban people from afar, as well as some politicians, have “escalated their calls for military intervention against the Castro regime to defend the lives of unarmed, peaceful Cuban protesters,” Breitbart News reported. A petition at Change.org urging military intervention has attracted nearly 400,000 signatures as of Wednesday, suggesting the idea is more popular than many establishment media outlets in the United States have suggested.

Biden’s response to protests in Cuba has been criticized for being unenthusiastic and slow. On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) stated that he wished the Biden administration denounced the tyranny of Cuba with “half the passion” that they have for denouncing Republican elected officials.

During a press conference on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the administration is reviewing its policies toward Cuba.

“And as we look at those policies, one of the big factors is ensuring we are not doing anything to pad the pockets of a corrupt authoritarian regime,” Psaki said, while also suggesting Biden is considering providing humanitarian aid.

President Joe Biden said Thursday the United States was considering ways to force open Internet access in Cuba, which he called a “failed state.” He also said he would give Cuba Chinese coronavirus vaccines if he knew the shots would make it to the Cuban people.

Notably, the Biden Administration did not explicitly condemn communism until several days after protests began. Psaki also asserted that Cuban protesters yelling “freedom!” during anti-communist protests were actually demanding “freedom from rising COVID cases.”

Biden issued an initial statement on Monday claiming to “stand with the Cuban people,” but he failed to mention widespread reports of public gang beatings and live fire against unarmed protesters on the part of state security.
