On May 24, at the Quad meeting held by the United States, Japan, Australia, and India, the leaders of the four countries led by President Biden of the United States jointly launched a satellite maritime initiative to help the Indo-Pacific region track illegal fishing activities and unconventional maritime militia vessels to counter the CCP’s latest efforts to illegally fish and overextend in disputed territories.

A senior U.S. official said the initiative would allow dark shipping and illegal fishing to track transponders in the Indo-Pacific region and help maintain territorial sovereignty, and assist maritime rescue missions. The Quad will conduct a satellite-based commercial tracking service that will provide real-time maritime intelligence to countries. This information will be shared through a network of regional hubs in India, Singapore, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands, and will be shared directly with countries in some special cases. In addition to maritime initiatives, the Quad will also strengthen cooperation in cybersecurity, healthcare, climate, and infrastructure.
