NEW JERSEY – Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, 30, was shot and killed in her car on Wednesday night on Samuel Circle.
Officials found her with multiple gunshot wounds just before 7:30 PM.
Police believe Dwumfour, a native of Newark, was the intended target of the shooting but don’t have a clear motive. They speculate her car traveled 100 feet before crashing into two parked cars.
“I am stunned by the news of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour’s murder last evening in an act of gun violence,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said. “Her career of public service was just beginning, and by all accounts she had already built a reputation as a committed member of the Borough Council who took her responsibility with the utmost diligence and seriousness.”
Dwumfour was elected to the Borough Council in 2022, defeating an incumbent Democrat and beginning a three-year term as a Republican.
