According to a Dec. 7 report by The Epoch Times, Lithuania’s foreign minister sent a letter to the European Union on Dec. 6, expressing Lithuania’s unacceptable and intolerable economic retaliation by the Chinese Communist Party. He asked the EU to intervene and take “tough measures” against the Chinese Communist Party.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on Monday sent a letter to EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell. In the letter, he said that the CCP’s economic retaliation against Lithuania is “rising to an unprecedented level”.

In his letter, Landsbergis confirmed that Lithuanian exporters can no longer enter the CCP market and the country’s name has been erased from the CCP customs clearance list.

“These activities of the CCP authorities against an EU member state have a direct impact on the EU as a whole and on our common trade policy,” Landsbergis wrote in the write-up. “I implore you to intervene with the CCP authorities on behalf of Lithuania in order to resolve the current situation.”

Landsbergis also said that “a tough response is needed at the EU level in order to send a signal to the Chinese Communist Party that politically motivated economic pressure is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Last October, the new Lithuanian government took office and became the first EU country to announce its withdrawal from the CCP-led “17+1” cooperation framework, and has repeatedly expressed support for Taiwan’s membership in the World Health Organization.

In July this year, Lithuania allowed Taiwan to set up a “Taiwan Representative Office in Lithuania” in the country, which subsequently triggered a series of retaliations from the Chinese Communist Party.
