“Because of recent developments involving legal challenges and certification of election results, I have determined that you may access the post-election resources and services described in Section 3 of the Act upon request,” said Emily Murphy, the GSA Administrator in her letter to President-elect Joe Biden.
In her letter, the GSA administrator said that she had received multiple threats to her life, family, and GSA staff in “an effort to coerce me into making this determination prematurely.”
“Contrary to media reports and insinuations, my decision was not made out of fear or favoritism,” continued Murphy. “Instead, I strongly believe that the statute requires that the GSA Administrator ascertain, not impose, the apparent president-elect.”
Murphy urged the Congress to consider amending the “Presidential Transition Act of 1963,” because she said it “provides no procedure or standards for this process.”
