Exclusive — Speaker McCarthy: ‘We’re Not Going to Pass a Clean Debt Ceiling,’ ‘We Have to Spend Less Money’

U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News in no uncertain terms that the House of Representatives this year will not pass a clean debt ceiling hike without spending cuts and that the House will not raise taxes.

“The one thing I firmly believe,” McCarthy said, is “We’re not going to raise taxes and we’re not going to pass a clean debt ceiling.”

“I told the president we have to spend less money,” McCarthy added.

McCarthy said that without serious reforms to discretionary spending the U.S. could be on the brink of serious financial calamity.

“Every great society collapses when they over-extend themselves,” McCarthy told Breitbart News.

Such a dire warning from the nation’s highest-ranking elected Republican came just hours before Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapsed on Friday, setting off fears of a broader financial crisis possibly looming in the United States. SVB’s collapse came in large part as a result of high and persistent inflation. In an attempt to tame inflation, the Federal Reserve hiked interest rates rapidly, which undercut the bank’s long-term investments in lower-interest rate government-backed securities.

McCarthy’s comments were taped last Wednesday during an exclusive long-form on-camera interview with Breitbart News in the ceremonial speaker’s office in the Capitol, the latest in the On The Hill in-depth video series. McCarthy, in the hourlong interview, covered many topics including his release of the January 6 U.S. Capitol surveillance tapes, corruption investigations into President Joe Biden’s family business operation, the wide open U.S. southern border, and the rising threat of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

While McCarthy has made it clear he wants serious cuts to non-essential discretionary government spending in order to slow inflation—he does not intend to cut Medicare or Social Security—he was not specific in this interview about exactly how much in terms of such cuts he was looking for.

“I do not predetermine what that is, but what I laid out with the president is: We’re going to spend less money,” McCarthy said when asked if there is a specific dollar amount worth of cuts that would win his approval for a debt ceiling deal.

McCarthy also pointed to savings Americans can achieve by securing the border and pushing for energy independence as possible pathways to a broader deal.

“Another dollar amount you would look at is not just all the savings, but what if you were able to secure the border?” McCarthy said. “What if you were able to become energy independent? That’s a lot of savings in itself because you have the price of fuel lower so people can work, that more jobs would come to America.”

When asked to explain what the debt ceiling is, and lay out the terms of the looming battle with Biden and a Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate, McCarthy compared it to the spending limit on a maxed-out credit card a parent would give their child.

“Look, the debt ceiling is very serious—and we’ve got to understand what the debt ceiling is and just to put it down it’s like providing your child with a credit card,” McCarthy said. “They charge all the way up to the limit, and you’re responsible for paying it. But do you raise the limit without changing the behavior or do you change the behavior?

McCarthy pointed to previous times in fairly recent U.S. history, like specifically the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 from then-Sens. Phil Gramm (R-TX), Warren Rudman (R-NH), and Fritz Hollings (D-SC), as proof of Republicans and Democrats working together to curb spending. He said reforms like those throughout history “made America stronger.”

“Right now we have inflation because of the Democrats’ runaway spending,” McCarthy said. “Really, what people want to look at: Is it a spending problem or is it a revenue problem? Our spending is $31 trillion of debt. You just had the Congressional Budget Office just come out a couple weeks ago and tell us a forecast for the next 10 years. What they say is in the next 10 years we will end up paying $10.5 trillion just in interest. So it’s just like paying the interest on your credit card and never taking on the principle. Now put that in perspective. How much interest have we paid in the last 80 years? Let’s go back to 1940. If you add up all the interest that we paid for our debt since 1940 today it’s $9 trillion. So what took you more than 80 years, you’re going to pay more in 10 years.”

McCarthy said that Democrat President Joe Biden’s position is that taxes should be raised to pay for this, but he fundamentally disagrees and argues that revenue is not the issue and that revenue as compared to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is at or near an all-time high.

“Now let’s compare: Is the problem we need more revenue?” McCarthy said. “Well, when you look at the revenue that’s coming in, it’s about 20 percent of GDP. Well is that high or low? The 50-year average is 17 percent.”

McCarthy said that only a few times in history has revenue hit 20 percent of GDP, “so really we’re getting more money coffers into the coffers of government, but what the Democrats have done is they have increased discretionary spending by more than 30 percent.”

“They increased all this spending and that’s what put us into this problem, the $6 trillion that the Democrats added,” McCarthy said. “So we’re in a real problem.”

Biden has essentially already caved to the Republicans on the debt ceiling since his initial position was he would not negotiate at all. But now, Biden is having conversations—in public, like during the State of the Union address, and in private. like with his first one-on-one meeting with McCarthy a little over a month ago—and calling for Republicans to put forward their plan and begin negotiations, as he did in a speech this month rolling out his budget plan.

“What I told the president is we can sit down and we can talk,” McCarthy told Breitbart News. “He thinks you should just raise the debt ceiling and not negotiate. That’s not what history tells us. That’s not what the American people want—74 percent want us to sit down and solve this problem. Why? Because if you keep spending more, inflation comes. That’s what brought us inflation.”

McCarthy added that failure to rein in government spending only helps American adversaries, particularly the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), because the U.S. is paying tens of millions of dollars in interest payments on the debt to China every single day.

“It gives an advantage to China over us,” McCarthy said. “We’re going to spend $60 million today paying China because of the interest. We’re going to do that tomorrow, and the day after and the day after. I’d rather invest it in America. And we’re going to hurt our children and grandchildren.”

Republicans have yet to as a conference formally coalesced behind any specific plan, though some ideas have been offered by different factions, like the House Freedom Caucus or the Republican Study Committee on some principles they would like to see in place on this. McCarthy, for his part, called a formal briefing for the full U.S. House of Representatives in an auditorium normally reserved for classified intelligence briefings on U.S. military operations earlier this month, where he brought in leaders from the Congressional Budget Office to brief members on the debt.

“I just brought in the Congressional Budget Office director and I brought every Republican and every Democrat to the auditorium,” McCarthy told Breitbart News. “Normally, we have only done that for a classified briefing when there are some challenges to America, be it the military. Well, I think this is just as big an issue. I think it’s our biggest issue out there. So we’re all coming together because we’re not going to solve this problem just by ourselves.”

In addition to discretionary spending cuts, McCarthy also argued for energy independence, border security, reinstatement of some work requirements that Democrats have undercut, and a “recapture” of unspent COVID pandemic relief funds disbursed across the country.

“So there’s a lot of places we can find savings and we can make government more efficient—more effective,” McCarthy said. “We can end the pandemic, which would save us money. We could have federal employees go back to work. We passed a bill on that, and there were 47 percent of federal employees aren’t at work today in the office. So what I look at is a number of things. But we’ve got to get our fiscal house in order—it is the fundamental thing we have to do and put us on the path to balance.”

McCarthy was also particularly upset with Biden’s false claim during the State of the Union address that Republicans were seeking to cut Medicare or Social Security, programs he had even before the speech made very clear Republicans do not intend to touch at all.

“He knew it was a lie when he said it,” McCarthy said of Biden’s false statement during the joint address.

The reaction in the chamber was swift in response to Biden: Shouts from members that he was lying drowned him out, and then he started bargaining from the podium with them over what to do over the debt ceiling.

“It’s even louder in person than it is on television,” McCarthy said when asked what it was like in the room as he watched from sitting the behind the president as this moment played out. “What’s really sad is the president loses a lot of credibility when I publicly said we’re not cutting Medicare and Social Security, but he loses a lot of credibility when the reason why in this new Congressional Budget Office report for the next 10 years for the first time all three trust funds become insolvent in the next 10 years–the Highway Trust Fund, Medicare, and Social Security. So when they put in Obamacare, they raided Medicare. When they just did their inflation bill, they raided Medicare. So why do we have a problem? Why is it becoming insolvent even quicker? What the Democrats have done to Medicare. To turn around and know it’s a lie and to try to tell the American public that the Republicans are going after [these programs], we are the ones who have been trying to save it.”

As for whether or not Biden and Democrats will negotiate in good faith—it seemed from that moment during the State of the Union address that he might actually do so after that—McCarthy said it remains to be seen.

“I think only time will tell,” McCarthy said. “I mean, the president’s answer is to tax more. That’s the worst thing to do in an economy right now that has no growth. It’s the worst thing you can do with inflation, what he’s wanting to do as well. I think government spending less curbs inflation and it makes us stronger economically and eliminates waste in government.”

Exclusive — Speaker McCarthy: Administration ‘Fighting Every Step of the Way’ Against Biden Family Business Investigations

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Breitbart News last week that Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration has been “fighting” against transparency “every step of the way” with GOP investigators probing the president’s family business dealings.

McCarthy’s interview, taped on Wednesday in the ceremonial U.S. House Speaker’s office, came before the Treasury Department finally, after weeks, relented and agreed to provide the many Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) on Biden family members’ bank transactions. McCarthy sat for the hourlong interview as part of the long form Breitbart News exclusive On The Hill video series. The first part, on McCarthy’s decision to release Jan. 6, 2021, surveillance footage from the Capitol, was published last week. This second part is one of many other major topics, including on other investigations, the debt ceiling, leftist efforts to engage in censorship of conservatives, the rising threat of China, and the currently open U.S. southern border, addressed in the interview. More is forthcoming.

SARs are when a bank flags for the government suspicious activity regarding transactions, and apparently several Biden family members including the president’s son Hunter Biden and his brother James Biden have several of them. For months this year, the Treasury Department refused to provide the documents to Congress, but after the McCarthy interview with Breitbart News last week the administration relented this week and agreed to provide the documents to the committee.

“Why?” McCarthy asked when Breitbart News asked him why the Biden Administration was covering up these documents. “There are hundreds of them. It’s not easy to get one of those to happen, and it’s not with one bank. Why would they hold that up?”

McCarthy said that House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has the authority to follow this investigation wherever it leads, even though the Biden White House and administration have been resisting investigators at every turn.

“Jamie Comer has been doing an excellent job on this,” McCarthy said when asked where this goes. “He has a great information book behind this. We are following the information every place it takes us but what we’re finding is the administration is fighting every step of the way. Why would they fight it? It’s very interesting to us. Why would they fight just the story on the laptop itself? Why would they go out of their way to get people who are in the intel community—literally, 52 of them—to sign a letter to say it was false? Well, we’re bringing those people in. We’re going to cross every T and dot every I and we’re going to get all the information here.”

McCarthy would also not rule out the possibility that members of Biden’s family, such as his son Hunter or his brothers Frank or James or other family members of the president, or close business associates of theirs, would possibly be called to testify before congressional hearings later this year.

“I won’t prejudge the work that Congressman Comer is doing,” McCarthy said when asked if Americans should expect members of the president’s family on the witness stand. “The chairman, he’s doing an excellent job. And he will, I promise you this, when we talk—he will follow it wherever it takes him.”

Republicans have been making some headway with the Biden family investigations since their newly won majority in the 2022 midterm elections took office in January. Biden’s former assistant Kathy Chung is now cooperating with House GOP investigators, as is Biden family business associate Eric Schwerin.

In 2018 and 2020, Breitbart Senior Contributor and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer published Secret Empires and Profiles in Corruption. Each book hit #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and exposed how Hunter Biden and Joe Biden flew aboard Air Force Two in 2013 to China before Hunter’s firm inked a $1.5 billion deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China less than two weeks after the trip. Schweizer’s work also uncovered the Biden family’s other vast and lucrative foreign deals and cronyism.

Breitbart Political Editor Emma-Jo Morris’ investigative work at the New York Post on the Hunter Biden “laptop from hell” also captured international headlines when she, along with Miranda Devine, revealed that Joe Biden was intimately involved in Hunter’s businesses, appearing to even have a 10 percent stake in a company the scion formed with officials at the highest levels of the Chinese Communist Party.

U.S. Treasury to Release Biden Family’s Suspicious Bank Reports to House Oversight Committee

U.S. Treasury to Release Biden Family’s Suspicious Bank Reports to House Oversight Committee

The Treasury Department will comply and release suspicious activity reports (SARs) generated by the Biden family and their associates’ business transactions to the House Oversight Committee, Breitbart News has learned.

The Treasury’s compliance to disclose the SARs is a massive development in the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into the Biden family business to determine if President Joe Biden is compromised by communist China. The committee is investigating the Biden family business for nine violations, including wire fraud and money laundering.

U.S. banks have flagged over 150 SARs from Hunter and James Biden that included “large” amounts of money tagged for further review by the Treasury. SARs “often contain evidence of potential criminal activities, such as money laundering and fraud,” according to a 2020 Senate report.

The suspicious records will provide details about how the family business operates and desired transparency on Hunter, James, and Frank’s foreign business transactions, along with knowledge of whether Joe Biden remains compromised by foreign governments through his family’s business.

On January 11, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) demanded the Treasury turn over the suspicious bank records, but the Treasury had denied Comer’s request citing “improper disclosure” of relevant information that could reduce the Biden administration’s ability to “conduct of law enforcement, intelligence, and national security activities.”

The Treasury’s compliance comes after the committee’s probe has so far met resistance from Hunter Biden and from some of his associates, such as Serbian politician Vuk Jeremić and Hunter’s art dealer.

While the probe has met resistance, the committee has found a few key individuals willing to comply. The Biden family’s former top financial lieutenant Eric Schwerin is expected to “soon” provide requested documents to the committee. Schwerin, who shared bank accounts with Joe Biden and was dubbed the family’s “moneyman,” was also the president of Rosemont Seneca Partners, a fund created by Hunter Biden and several associates that spawned business deals in Russia, Ukraine, China, and Romania.

In addition, Joe Biden’s former executive assistant Kathy Chung is scheduled on April 4 to sit for a requested transcribed interview with the committee’s investigation into the Biden family business and Joe Biden’s classified document scandal. Chung was hired as Joe Biden’s assistant when he was vice president after a recommendation from Hunter Biden. Chung appears in numerous email threads on Hunter’s “laptop from hell.”

Exclusive – Vivek Ramaswamy: I’m Against Tax-Payer Funded Bailout for ESG ‘Evangelist’ Silicon Valley Bank

Exclusive – Vivek Ramaswamy: I’m Against Tax-Payer Funded Bailout for ESG ‘Evangelist’ Silicon Valley Bank

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy appeared on Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Saturday and declared he is firmly against a bailout for Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which he called “one of the biggest evangelists of DEI and ESG.”

Ramaswamy, who told Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle that the 2008 financial crisis informed much of his economic policy, rejected the idea of a taxpayer-funded bailout after customers withdrew $42 billion in a massive run this week.

“I want to be early because you’re gonna hear the calls for bailouts coming real soon here. I’m against a government bailout,” said the 37-year-old entrepreneur who has founded multiple biotech start-up companies worth multi-billion dollars. “And you know what, we don’t learn the lessons we should have learned, then you keep making the same mistakes all over again.”

“The Federal Reserve, for 15 years, has been raining money from on high like manna from heaven,” Ramaswamy told Boyle while speaking via phone before a live audience in southwest Ohio. “We’ve been skiing on artificial snow. Now the snow machine turns off, and within less than a year, you’re seeing the banks fail because they don’t know how to ski on anything other than artificial snow. I’m talking about money being pumped into the system.”

“Capitalism, [Joseph] Schumpeter said it well, it’s based on creative destruction,” he continued. “So you know what, someone’s got to have the things to pay for the sins. That’s great. That’s part of how capitalism works. We can’t interfere… with this short-termism of bailing out this bank. It’s a mistake. And by the way, Republicans made this mistake in 2008. It’s crony capitalism. Hank Paulson, under George Bush – I think it was a mistake – bailed out Goldman Sachs and others like them… It’s crony capitalism because Hank Paulson was most recently the CEO of Goldman Sachs before bailing them out. But I think that we should resist the siren song with the Silicon Valley Bank catastrophe.”

LISTEN:

Ramaswamy then highlighted SVB’s embrace of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies and asserted the bank pushed Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing factors.

“Silicon Valley Bank is one of the biggest evangelists of DEI and ESG – environmental and social factors,” he said. “In fact, just January of last year, barely over a year ago… they made a $5 billion commitment to sustainable finance to actually make for what they call a climate-ready, healthier planet. Well, guess what? That $5 billion would have served their balance sheet – how about a healthier balance sheet instead? And that’s something that actually, it’s a lesson that everyone else ought to learn by example. The lesson they ought to learn is not when you waste your money and burn it in a financial trash fire that… the taxpayers of this country are there to save you. No! It actually ought to be a lesson for everybody else that a healthy balance sheet is the responsibility of a bank, not… what they call a healthy planet.”

“But I think that that’s actually the lesson we’ve got to learn,” continued the presidential candidate. “And you know what, that was the 2008 lesson, too…The reason we had the 2008 financial crisis … is because we had a social policy for allocating capital in this country. Back then, it was homeownership. Under the Clinton administration, it was a goal to say that every American should own a home. Well, I liked that as much as the next guy, but if you can’t afford a home, that means you probably shouldn’t be borrowing to buy one. And so, yet, they still forced people effectively into doing it. Then you have the bubble that results in the financial crisis, and the very people you wanted to help are the ones who got hurt.”

A worker (center) tells people that the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) headquarters is closed on March 10, 2023, in Santa Clara, California. Silicon Valley Bank was shut down on Friday morning by California regulators and was put in control of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. (Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

“Well, guess what? The same thing with this environmental and social scam as well,” he stressed. “It’s tilting the scales of how capital is allocated. And I’ll tell you this is somebody who succeeded in the system of free market capitalism as we know it. I’ll give it to you straight: When there’s a non-economic factor that guides the flow of capital, bad things happen. You create bubbles, and it hurts the very people that you set out to help.”

Exclusive — Watch: Speaker McCarthy Vows Full Public Release of Capitol’s January 6 Surveillance Tapes

Exclusive — Watch: Speaker McCarthy Vows Full Public Release of Capitol’s January 6 Surveillance Tapes

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he intends to fully release to the public the tens of thousands of hours of U.S. Capitol surveillance footage from January 6, 2021.

McCarthy’s comments came during a wide-ranging hourlong on-camera interview in the ceremonial U.S. House speaker’s office in his first sit-down interview since Fox News host Tucker Carlson aired on his program some never-before-seen clips of such surveillance footage earlier this week.

“Yeah,” McCarthy said when asked if the tapes will be fully released to the public.

“We just want to make sure we go through them all, and it takes time,” he continued. “The first thing that Tucker said too, he didn’t want to show any exits to cause any problems. We asked the Capitol Police, ‘Were there any concerns?’ They came back with one, and we mitigated that, but it was interesting, that one that they had a problem with, Eric Swalwell had had up on the internet for the last two years showing that part.”

McCarthy’s interview was taped as part of the latest On The Hill video special from Breitbart News, a long-form series of in-depth interviews and specials. He previously sat for one taped in late 2021 and released in January 2022 that laid the foundation for the House Republicans’ midterm message. McCarthy, in that special, first detailed the House GOP agenda the “Commitment to America” and made several major promises including that he would remove Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee if elected speaker. More than a year later, within days of getting elected speaker, McCarthy delivered on those promises and kicked Swalwell, Schiff, and Omar off those committees.

This latest special focuses on several major issues facing the country, including the threats of the Chinese Communist Party, the border crisis, and the debt ceiling. More from the interview will be released in the coming days and weeks. McCarthy’s comments about the January 6 surveillance are particularly newsworthy and timely as this was the most in-depth yet he has gone in explaining his rationale for releasing them, and responding to attacks from the media and people like Democrat Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for doing so.

The footage Carlson aired undercut some narratives that the last Congress’s January 6 select committee put forward, and those of many in establishment media. For instance, Carlson showed tapes of January 6 protesters inside the Capitol lining up and taking pictures inside—Carlson called them “sightseers” rather than “insurrectionists.” What’s more, another video Carlson aired shows Capitol Police officers walking around inside the Capitol for several minutes with the now-infamous “QAnon Shaman” Jacob Chansley and even trying to help him open locked doors. McCarthy, when he became speaker of the House just about two months ago, provided Carlson with access to several of these tapes in the interest of transparency. But McCarthy told Breitbart News that Carlson just got the first bite at the apple and that these videos will be released more broadly in the coming weeks as sensitive security information is removed.

“Well this is all about transparency,” McCarthy said when asked why he released the tapes. “It won’t just be to Tucker. Like any news organization, different people get exclusives. We watched during the January 6, CNN would have exclusives all the time and nobody complained. CNN actually got to be in Statuary Hall for a whole hour for their own show. You’ve watched that January 6 would release only certain tapes. I think it’s better for transparency that anyone can make their own decision up, and as we walk through these, these are many more hours of tapes than the January 6 committee told us. It’s not 14,000. It’s 42,000 hours. We want to make sure for security purposes our certain exits aren’t shown and others. But you know the most interesting thing, when I had the team talk to the Capitol Police about making sure they had no problems with the exit and so on, they said January 6 never asked them that. They showed the exit of the vice president. They showed the exit from my office. They literally had then Speaker Pelosi’s daughter showing the secure location that they take the leadership. That’s not supposed to be known to anybody, and CNN reported it, and I don’t remember the press ever getting upset with that. So what we want to do is make sure we have this out that everybody can see it.”

Carlson made a compelling case in several instances, including the inaccurate claims from the January 6 committee that Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) somehow led a tour of January 6 rioters inside the Capitol the day before so they could conduct reconnaissance, that members of the January 6 committee lied to the public in their findings. Interestingly, however, the chairman of the now-defunct January 6 committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), made a stunning admission to reporters this week where he said members of the committee, including himself, never had access to the surveillance footage—only staff did. Asked if he thinks the tapes show that the January 6 committee lied to the public, McCarthy said he has not yet personally seen all the tapes so he is not ready to draw conclusions.

He did, however, bash the January 6 committee for partisanship—now-former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) engaged in an unprecedented action when she refused to allow Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Jim Banks (R-IN) to be seated on the committee—and he defended Loudermilk from the false accusations he has faced. McCarthy said ultimately though he hopes the public reviews the tapes and comes to their own conclusions.

McCarthy-Boyle

(Breitbart News)

“I haven’t been able to see all the tapes yet, but the one thing I did know, there were certain things that the January 6 committee did that I knew was purely political,” McCarthy said. “First, not letting Republicans on the committee. Secondly, they made accusations that we knew were not true. They said one Republican congressman gave a tour. Well the tapes show he did not give a tour, but you know what, one of the Democrats on the January 6 committee did give a tour in the Capitol the day before. We watched different accusations they made. That’s why I think transparency answers all that. That’s not my job to sit back and say whether they were right or wrong, but my job is to be transparent and people can make their own conclusion.”

McCarthy said he is unsure if the tapes will affect any trials or convictions of January 6 defendants, but argued that any of them should be able to use any of the tapes in their defense.

“I’m not sure but anybody’s that’s been held for trial, they should be able to have the ability to see the tapes,” McCarthy said. “They should be able to use the tapes. I don’t know if he [Chansley] was able to use the tapes during then, but I also believe in America you need equal justice. I watched what transpired in America, the burning of courthouses. Look, I don’t condone anything that happened on January 6. I don’t like what happened on January 6, but I watched the courthouses get burned in Seattle. I watched them attack federal employees. I watched what happened here, and no one getting arrested, no one being held up to justice. I think in America you want equal justice, and that’s what’s concerning to me.”

McCarthy also said he is unsure if anything in the tapes could lead to convictions being overturned, or to eventual pardons from a president down the road.

“I have not been able— there’s 48,000 [hours of] tapes,” McCarthy said. “I haven’t gone through them so I don’t know, but I’d leave that up to the justice system. But the one thing I will say is, to be fair, in equal justice, if there’s any person that’s accused they should be able to have a right to see the tapes to make their own defense.”

Asked if he intends to, with these revelations coming to light and more, investigate the investigators so to speak—people like now former Reps. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)—McCarthy noted they are no longer in Congress. As for Thompson, who was chair of the now shut-down committee, McCarthy said that his predecessor Pelosi’s decision to appoint him chair was suspect given his objections to previous elections of GOP presidents like in 2004 when he formally objected to the certification of then-President George W. Bush’s reelection.

“You know Adam and Liz are no longer here. What’s interesting is that Pelosi would even appoint Thompson for this committee,” McCarthy said. “You remember, he objected to the presidential election. The one thing that Bennie said at the very beginning is Nancy Pelosi is off limits and the Sergeant of Arms, so we can’t know about those emails or texts or those conversations. I’ve really taken the approach that the Capitol Police weren’t protected that day, that they weren’t given the information ahead of time. Should you have had National Guard here? What information did you have? I was never told of any threats beforehand, and you would not ever want to have that security problem happen again, so you want to look at it from a security point of view too. Why did it happen and how do you make sure that never happens again? To me it’s quite interesting that the January 6 never laid that out.”

McCarthy also ripped Schumer, the Democrat leader in the Senate, for calling for censorship in response to McCarthy’s transparency play. On Tuesday, after Carlson revealed some of these tapes on Monday night, Schumer called for Fox News and Rupert Murdoch to censor Carlson.

“I urge Fox News to order Carlson to cease propagating the big lie on his network and to level with their viewers about the truth, the truth, behind the efforts to mislead the public. Conduct like theirs is just asking for another January 6 to happen,” Schumer said on the Senate floor, adding in comments to reporters that he believes Murdoch has a “special obligation” to censor Carlson:

McCarthy, in response to Schumer, bashed the Democrats for trying to engage in censorship.

“I wish Chuck Schumer would read the Constitution,” McCarthy told Breitbart News. “The Democrats always go to censorship. You watched what they did with the laptop. You watched what they did with Twitter. They want to use government as much as they can to censor what people can see and what people can know. This is the difference between us. I believe in the Constitution. I trust the American people, and you should just have the ability to have all the information and let people make their own judgement.”

Exclusive: Jim Jordan Seeks Testimony from 16 FBI Employees amid Probes into Whistleblower Allegations

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) took another step in his investigation into numerous FBI whistleblower allegations by requesting testimony from 16 individuals who are current or recent employees at the bureau, according to a letter sent Friday to FBI Director Christopher Wray and obtained by Breitbart News.

Jordan, who chairs the Weaponization of the Federal Government Select Subcommittee, sought the testimonies after conducting closed-door interviews with three FBI witnesses who had contacted Jordan’s office during the past year and alleged misconduct of higher-ups at their jobs.

Jordan wrote to Wray:

From the documentary and testimonial information that we have obtained to date, we have identified several FBI employees who we believe possess information that is necessary for our oversight.

We anticipate that we may require testimony from additional FBI employees as our oversight continues, and we expect your cooperation in facilitating these future interviews as well.

Jordan named in the letter 16 individuals, all of whom are current or recent FBI employees and had been named by the three witnesses in the closed-door interviews, according to interview transcriptions and notes reviewed by Breitbart News.

Several of the 16 individuals currently hold positions such as special agent in charge or assistant special agent in charge.

The witnesses questioned so far this year include George Hill, a retired national security intelligence supervisor in the FBI’s Boston Field Office; Steve Friend, a former Florida-based FBI special agent; and Garret O’Boyle, a suspended Kansas-based FBI special agent. They were questioned in closed-door transcribed interviews by Republican and Democrat members of the Judiciary Committee, under which the weaponization subcommittee is housed.

According to the interview transcriptions and notes, Hill and Friend testified in detail about how they felt certain leaders at the FBI had an abnormally heavy focus on cases related to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Hill and Friend, among their various allegations, said they worked in an environment where agents were pressured by their superiors to prioritize cases related to “domestic violent extremism” and inflate the number of such cases in the aftermath of the riot.

O’Boyle had a similar experience, according to portions of his testimony, which also included color about the FBI pursuing leads related to school board meetings, as well as leads related to responses to the Supreme Court Dobbs leak, which O’Boyle recalled had “shifted” to focus on pro-lifers.

Friend, whose security clearance the FBI suspended last September, and O’Boyle, who testified in his interview that his security clearance was suspended last September as well, also maintained during their testimonies that the FBI retaliated against them for whistleblowing, including by suspending their clearances.

Multiple left-leaning media outlets, including CNN, the New York Times, and Rolling Stone magazine, first provided glimpses of the three agents’ testimonies and backgrounds in reports on Thursday, which coincided with Democrats releasing a 316-page report that same day on their takeaways from the interviews with the three witnesses.

The Democrats claimed the three witnesses were “not, in fact, ‘whistleblowers,’” contending they had “put forward a wide range of conspiracy theories” but no “actual evidence of wrongdoing” by the FBI or Justice Department.

Jordan spokesman Russell Dye told Breitbart News the details in Thursday’s media reports and in the Democrat publication were based on “cherry-picked excerpts of testimony” designed “to attack brave whistleblowers who risked their careers to speak out.”

Jordan’s request to interview the 16 individuals comes as part of an expansive investigation by the newly created weaponization subcommittee into alleged civil liberties violations by executive branch agencies, including the FBI and Justice Department.

The subcommittee was created partly because of numerous allegations made by FBI whistleblowers — including Hill, Friend, and O’Boyle — whom Jordan has been vetting over the past year and a half.

Acknowledging in his letter Friday that he has received some pushback from the Justice Department on his investigative pursuits, Jordan wrote:

We are aware that the Justice Department has preemptively indicated that it intends to limit the scope and nature of information available to the Committee as part of our oversight.

You should know, however, that despite the Department’s assertions to the contrary, congressional committees have regularly received testimony from non-Senate-confirmed and line-level Justice Department employees, including FBI employes [sic], in the past. We expect this past precedent to apply to our oversight as well.

Jordan asked Wray’s staff to contact committee staff by March 8 to begin scheduling interviews, and as has been the standard in letters of requests that Jordan has been sending to various federal agencies, the chairman indicated he would resort to issuing subpoenas should the FBI not comply with his latest ask.

Exclusive: Rep. Issa Calls for Whistleblowers to Come Forward After New Claims from Alleged Biden Associate

Exclusive: Rep. Issa Calls for Whistleblowers to Come Forward After New Claims from Alleged Biden Associate

Top Congressional investigator Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is calling for whistleblowers to come forward after the arrest of an Israeli think-tank executive who allegedly served with Hunter Biden as an adviser to a Chinese energy company and claims to have documents detailing financial links between President Joe Biden and the company.

Gal Luft, co-director of the D.C.-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security and specialist in energy security and U.S.-China relations, was arrested in Cyprus on an Interpol arrest warrant against him on suspicion of arms trafficking to Libya and China, according to Israeli news outlet Ynet.

But, according to Luft, the arrest is “political revenge” for bringing the FBI incriminating information ahead of the 2020 election about Joe Biden’s ties to his family’s business with a Chinese energy company.

“My only ‘sin’ is that in March 2019, before the US presidential elections, I brought to the FBI incriminating information about the business of US President Joe Biden’s family with China, and about a corruption case at the top of the FBI,” Luft told Ynet.

Israeli international criminal and civil rights lawyer Mordechai Tzivin, who is representing Luft, told the Jerusalem Post his client has information that would “bury” Hunter Biden and “shift attention toward the president himself.”

“[He] knows a lot of information on Hunter. The [Congress] only recently began to investigate Hunter’s case and Gal’s testimony, if [he is allowed to testify] will bury Hunter Biden.” Tzivin told the Post. “Even more so, his testimony will shift the attention toward the president himself.”

Tzivin refused to provide documentation to support his claims when contacted by Breitbart News. Tzivin also declined to provide comment.

Following the reporting on Luft’s case, Rep. Issa told Breitbart he encourages any whistleblowers with information that would advance Congressional investigations into the Biden family business scheme and Department of Justice malfeasance to come forward.

“One never knows where whistleblowers, concerned individuals and the critical information they provide will be found next. But we must always be ready — especially as we uncover more and more Biden family corruption — to receive evidence that advances the cause of accountability and oversight,” Issa told Breitbart.

Issa — who held Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress in 2012, the first time in history that such a punitive measure had been taken against an AG — now sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. The congressman has displayed eagerness to investigate election interference with regard to the suppression of information on Biden family business entanglements, sending preservation of documents notices last March to 12 individuals involved in the censorship of the New York Post’s reporting on the Biden scion’s “laptop from hell.”

The House Oversight Committee told Breitbart that it is aware of Luft’s allegations and will be making contact with his lawyer.
“Oversight Committee staff are aware of the allegations and will be in touch with the attorney soon,” the committee’s spokesman said.

In recent days, a number of Biden family associates have been reported to be cooperating with House investigators as polling shows a further drift in sentiment away from the president’s family and its business dealings.

Kathy Chung, President Biden’s former “primary gatekeeper,” has agreed to partially comply with the House Oversight Committee’s probe into the classified document scandal and the Biden family’s international business schemes. Chung’s lawyer, Bill Taylor, told CNN she will hand over some requested documents and sit for an interview with the committee.

Hunter Biden’s top financial lieutenant Eric Schwerin is also expected to “soon” provide documents to the Oversight Committee’s investigation of the Biden family, according to a spokesperson for the committee who spoke to Breitbart.

Exclusive — Harriet Hageman After Border Trip: Mayorkas Is ‘Violating the Oath of Office’

Exclusive — Harriet Hageman After Border Trip: Mayorkas Is ‘Violating the Oath of Office’

Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) delivered a scathing rebuke of President Joe Biden’s border chief on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Saturday after returning from a congressional visit to Yuma, Arizona.

Hageman, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said that because Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has “abdicated his responsibilities,” bringing impeachment articles against him is “very likely.”

“I do believe that it’s very likely that there will be articles of impeachment brought against Mayorkas,” Hageman said. “And the reason being, he’s completely abdicated his responsibilities as the head of the Department of Homeland Security, and he is violating the oath of office that he took to protect this country from enemies, both foreign and domestic.”

Listen:

Hageman added, “He is not carrying out his obligations or responsibilities on the border. He needs to be held accountable for that and others do as well.”

Hageman’s comments come after Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Pat Fallon (R-TX) have already introduced articles of impeachment, and after GOP leaders, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), have conveyed an openness to investigating Mayorkas for impeachment-level breaches of duty.

The Judiciary Committee, as well as potentially other committees, would first have to conduct impeachment inquiries before Judiciary and subsequently the full House would then need to vote on impeachment articles.

Impeaching a cabinet member has not occurred in nearly 150 years, a testament to how egregiously inadequate Republicans feel Mayorkas has been at carrying out his job.

Millions of migrants have flooded across the border illegally under Mayorkas’s watch. U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows border officials have encountered nearly five million migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally since January 2021, a number that does not include the estimated one million “got-aways,” i.e., those who have crossed over undetected.

“I come from a state of 560,000 people,” said Hageman, who represents Wyoming’s sole at-large congressional district. “More than ten times the population of Wyoming have crossed that border illegally in the last two years.”

Hageman, noting the “huge unintended consequences” of illegal migration, such as the burden it places on Americans’ wages, housing costs, and hospitals, said she was “getting to the point” where she feels the Biden administration has intentionally allowed the ongoing border crisis to perpetuate.

“There are huge unintended consequences — or maybe they’re intended,” she said. “I’m getting to the point where this administration has been told enough about these issues that they should know better, that they do know better, and so you have to start questioning whether … the miserable policies that are being pursued are intentional.”
