Watch: National Hurricane Center’s Rohme Dismisses CNN Host Lemon’s Effort to Tie Hurricane Ian to Climate Change

Watch: National Hurricane Center’s Rohme Dismisses CNN Host Lemon’s Effort to Tie Hurricane Ian to Climate Change

Tuesday, during an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, National Hurricane Center acting director Jamie Rohme responded to the possibility Hurricane Ian bearing down on Florida was a direct consequence of climate change.

Rohme downplayed any direct ties to climate change but said it was possible “on the cumulative.”

Partial transcript as follows:

LEMON: Yes, that’s a big area. So, meteorologists, Jamie, have said that this storm could be entering another period of rapid intensification. Can you tell us what this is and what effect the climate change has on this phenomenon?

ROHME: Well, we can come back and talk about climate change at a later time. I want to focus on the here and now. We think the rapid intensification is probably almost done. There could be a little bit more intensification as it’s still over the warm waters of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, but I don’t think we’re going to get any more rapid intensification.

If you look here, you can actually see pretty interesting for your viewers. You can actually see a second eye wall forming around the inner eye wall, and that’s basically the second eye wall has overtaken the original eye wall, and that should arrest development.

LEMON: So, listen, I just — I’m just trying to get that you said you want to talk about climate change, but what — what effect does climate change have on this phenomenon that — that is happening now. Because it seems these storms are intensifying. That’s the question here.

ROHME: I don’t think you can link climate change to any one event —

LEMON: OK.

ROHME: — on the whole, on the cumulative, a climate change may be making storms worse. But to link it to any one event, I would caution against them.

LEMON: OK. Well, they — listen, I grew up there and these storms are intensifying something is causing them to intensify.

‘Absolutely Fake News’: Even Liberal Former PM Dismisses ‘Fascism’ Brewing in Italy Claims

Former liberal Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi has dismissed alarmist claims in the global media that incoming Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is a “danger to democracy”, telling CNN “the idea that now there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news.”

“Personally, I was against Giorgia Meloni. I’m not her best friend. We grew up together in politics, but we are, and will be, rivals, always,” said Renzi, who served as Prime Minister of Italy for nearly three years until December 2016, and is the leader of the liberal “Italia Viva” party.

“At the same time, I think [Meloni] is not a danger [to] Italian democracy,” Renzi continued. “She is my rival, and we will continue to fight each other, but the idea that now there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news.”

The former Prime Minister went on to say that Meloni won Sunday night’s election, “particularly because populism, a lot of times, [wins] in Italy.”

“She has a majority coalition, and probably she will be — I think next month — the next Prime Minister,” Renzi said, before doubling down on his claim that “democracy” is not at risk.

“That is very important, because I fought against her, but at the same time, I think there is not a danger for fascism in Italy,” Renzi affirmed.

Elsewhere in the interview, Renzi mentioned that he is “exactly the opposite of Giorgia Meloni, because she is a sovereigntist and I’m for Europe” [the European Union].

The international media has been quick to compare her to wartime fascist leader Mussolini, a serious allegation. Yet as Renzi’s comments demonstrate, not even Meloni’s own opposition inside Italy believes this to be true.

Indeed, there are genuine neo-fascists in Italy — like Casapound — but they get so little support at the ballot box they have now given up contesting elections as a waste of time and money.

On Sunday night, the coalition led by Meloni’s Brothers of Italy (FdI) party won Italy’s election, meaning the country’s first national-conservative government is set to take power. Additionally, the victory is set to make Meloni the first female prime minister in Italian history.

The coalition, known as Centro Destra, is an alliance between Brothers of Italy, former Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini’s League (Lega), and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italy.

Meloni has expressed her dedication to traditional family values, opposition to gender ideology and the LGBT lobby, as well as support for strong borders and an end to mass migration.

Currently, Meloni is being smeared by the establishment media as someone who is “comfortable” with “fascism,” simply because her motto is “We defend God, country, and family.”

Jake Tapper Moves To Primetime Proving CNN’s Reputation Is Unsalvageable

Jake Tapper Moves To Primetime Proving CNN’s Reputation Is Unsalvageable

It’s supposed to impress Republicans in Washington that new CNN boss Chris Licht has fired a few people at the channel and demoted some others. It’s probably working, but nothing proves how truly meaningless the changes are than that it was announced Thursday that the highly sensitive and monotonous Jake Tapper will be getting a primetime show.

Axios ran no fewer than three stories promoting Licht’s efforts to assure Republicans in Congress that they should give CNN a chance under his stewardship, come back on air and expect an experience far more fair than anything seen at the network for the past five years.

To demonstrate his sincerity, Licht made sacrificial pigs out of toothy Brian Stelter, who ran a Sunday show, and John Harwood, who offered the most unoriginal political analysis, but while standing on the White House lawn so he at least looked important.

There have been some other marginal changes as well, like moving the always hysterical Don Lemon from primetime to mornings (an equally important time slot) and stripping daytime anchors John Berman and Brianna Keilar of their posts.

That these are supposed to be strong indications of anything at all, let alone make up for the freak show that CNN fashioned itself during the Trump years, is laughable. If anything, that Tapper is getting a primetime show, up from his sleepy 4 p.m. slot, amounts to one giant troll of anyone who took Licht seriously.

If CNN executives were genuinely concerned about the channel’s reputation, Jake Tapper would have been the first shoved out the door without so much as a handshake. That emotional jerk has assaulted the ideas of composure and fairness daily on live national television for at least four years.

Recall that in January last year, Tapper reacted to a news alert about some Republicans in the Capitol declining to wear masks by helpfully referring to them as “selfish dipshits.” This is CNN!

Recall that after then-President Trump recovered from Covid, he innocuously tweeted, “Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life.” Tapper summoned his bravery. He couldn’t let such a remark go unchallenged. “It’s OK to be afraid of COVID, and it’s OK that it’s dominating your life,” he said on his show. He also called Trump’s tweet “so disrespectful.” (Shockingly, the segment’s producer did not cut to commercial so he could smack Tapper across the mouth for being so dumb, but instead, CNN clipped it and proudly posted it online.)

Recall that Tapper and his colleagues were the first to launch the Russia delirium with an ominous report in late 2017 that U.S. intelligence had “presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him.” After it was finally, demonstrably proven two years later that the Trump-Russia collusion story was a giant fraud, perpetuated in no small part by Tapper, he said, “I don’t know anybody who got anything wrong.”

One part dishonest, two parts moron. He’s like a child found alone in the kitchen next to broken glass, swearing it couldn’t possibly have been he who screwed up.

And when Tapper is not on TV lisping his way through angry, made-up narratives about Republicans intentionally spreading disease or winding his way through another hoax, he’s harassing his critics with private Twitter messages.

Yes, he’s that petty. Ask any journalist in Washington with a blue check on Twitter whether they’ve ever received a worked-up message from Tapper over some minor perceived slight. The answer will invariably be yes.

Tapper is a dork with not an ounce of credibility left to his name. That he is still employed by CNN shows how unsalvageable the whole operation is.

And someone should tell him his oily reverence for veterans reeks of cheap and shallow.

Media’s Top Eight Hunter Biden Laptop Deniers – And Many, Many Honorable Mentions

Media’s Top Eight Hunter Biden Laptop Deniers – And Many, Many Honorable Mentions

In commemoration of the launch of our first movie, My Son Hunter, I have attempted to find the origins of the contagion that is Hunter Biden laptop denial.

It was one of the biggest stories of the century, broken in one of the country’s oldest papers (the New York Post), and by a terrific reporter (Breitbart’s own Emma-Jo Morris). In an era of endless spin and fake news, this story was 100% factual. Yet it was almost instantly dismissed as Russian disinformation and censored from the Internet.

Who was behind this massive hoax? How did they pull it off? Were these people conspiracists, liars, ignoramuses, or some combination thereof? These are big questions that I can’t fully answer here, but I do think it’s a good time to look back and consider who were the biggest laptop deniers in our establishment media. Here they are:

1. Natasha Bertrand, Politico

PBS

Politico’s Natasha Bertrand published the now-infamous letter from over 50 former intelligence officials declaring the laptop “Russian disinformation.”

This article became the centerpiece of the effort to marginalize and discredit the laptop and the reporting of the New York Post. Though the letter suggested that the laptop narrative merely had the hallmarks of disinformation (read: she had zero actual evidence it was Russian or disinformation), the piece reverberated throughout the media and political landscape.

Because sometimes in the era of weaponized fake news, blatant speculation = “fact.”

The letter, given to Politico by an aide to disgraced ex-CIA chief and Russia-collusion hoaxer John Brennan, became the go-to excuse for censoring the laptop.

While outlet after outlet continued bandying this excuse, one of Politico’s own reporters was able to independently confirm some of the laptop’s content while all this was going on.

Bertrand, who was also one of the establishment media’s most hysterical Russia-collusion hoaxsters, failed upward from Politico to CNN.

2. The New York Times

When news of the laptop broke, the New York Times, which had (somewhat surprisingly) previously reported on Hunter Biden’s scandals, chose to cover the laptop primarily as a media story.

Right away, the paper published a multi-byline Q&A from its politics team assessing the reporting based on the laptop, declaring, “There is no evidence that the former vice president was involved in or profited from a joint venture pursued by his son and brother.” What a relief! Good thing we can always, always, always trust the New York Times.

The same day, they dispatched media columnist Ben Smith to tackle the press’s handling of the laptop and claims from former Hunter Biden business partner Tony Bobulinski. Smith seemed more concerned with the credibility of Rudy Giuliani (who “cast a pall over the story,” according to Smith) and Bobulinski than whether or not the laptop itself might be a trove of blockbuster revelations. This tactic, known as BenSmithing, is Smith’s specialty.

The Times also published a column at the time the Post published the “Laptop from Hell” series, calling the report “questionable,” “unverified,” and “baroque mythology.” Now THAT’S how you do journalism.

The Times published another column by Ross Douthat, the Times’s version of a conservative, on October 27, 2020, explicitly describing how the paper worked to ignore the substance of the Hunter Biden laptop story as part of covering it in a “cautious fashion,” even after Hunter’s business associate, Tony Bobulinski, came out on the record to confirm “The Big Guy” who was cut in on the deal was, in fact, Joe Biden.

“[T]his newspaper covered the story in a dry and cautious fashion, describing the Bobulinski allegations while also stressing the lack of definite evidence of the former vice president’s involvement in any deal,” Douthat wrote for the Times.

When, nearly 18 months later, the Times reporters affirmed the authenticity of the laptop, Smith was already off on his next venture, Biden was in the second year of his presidency, and NYT readers had moved on to the next hysteria du jour.

3. Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post

FSU Libraries/YouTube

When news of the laptop first broke, Washington Post fact-checker Glenn Kessler dashed off a blog post on the laptop controversy titled “Hunter Biden’s alleged laptop: An explainer.”

The piece offered Team Biden’s take on the controversy and (are you sitting down?) tried to poke holes in the New York Post’s reporting. But nothing was noted about the body of already-available info that confirmed the laptop’s contents.

Kessler eventually acknowledged in 2022 that at least portions of the laptop were real, but he continued to present claims from Team Biden as fact while failing to present contradictory evidence that was available from the laptop itself. Kessler has used his position at WaPo to declare certain lines of inquiry out of bounds for respectable journalists, continuing to take the word of the Biden machine over the evidence.

Time and time again, Kessler has shown that he’s more interested in policing the lines of legitimate inquiry than engaging in substantive “fact-checking.”

4. Anne Applebaum, the Atlantic

Perhaps no publication has embarrassed itself more in recent years than the Atlantic. One example is from 2017, when the Secret Service itself took to Twitter to chastise their Washington editor for a series of factually inaccurate tweets. Another occurred in 2020 when the magazine pushed a hoax claiming that Trump insulted U.S. soldiers during a trip to France. (I documented this incident thoroughly in my book on weaponized partisan media, Breaking the News.)

Never sensitive to irony, the Atlantic hosted a forum on disinformation earlier this year. The magazine had little to say about its own track record and even less about Biden’s laptop.

Nonetheless, staff writer Anne Applebaum, one of the greatest peddlers of Russiagate nonsense, was asked about the laptop during the event. Having lost her previous go-to excuse (disinformation), Applebaum said she simply found the laptop uninteresting.

5. Brian Stelter, CNN

Almost as soon as it appeared in the media, former CNN media critic Brian Stelter used his platformReliable Sources, the most famous media watchdog show on television—to baselessly attack the credibility of the Hunter Biden laptop reporting.

When the New York Times (finally) affirmed the laptop’s contents, Stelter still devoted no time to covering the story and refused to retract previous claims. Stelter even denied—at the Atlantic’s disinformation forum (obviously)—that he called the Biden laptop disinformation.

6. Ken Dilanian, NBC News

Dilanian, NBC’s justice and intelligence correspondent, complained that his attempts to obtain the laptop were rebuffed — but admitted he was shown documents that appeared to be genuine. Still, he repeated baseless speculation that the laptop was likely the result of a foreign intelligence operation. His logic appeared to be that he needed a full forensic analysis before he would report on the laptop’s contents, but he was more than willing to peddle the idea that the laptop is the result of a Russian op without any evidence whatsoever.

“Obviously, Russia would be the chief suspect there,” according to Dilanian. Perhaps he was the one engaged in a disinfo campaign.

7. NPR

NPR published a hit piece on now-Breitbart News Politics Editor Emma-Jo Morris, the author of the Post’s “Laptop from Hell” series, which the publicly funded outlet then used to justify refusing to cover the story.

In a newsletter (written by Poynter media institute’s Kelly McBride), NPR explained to its readers, “There are many, many red flags in that New York Post investigation. NPR Media Correspondent David Folkenflik detailed most of them here,” linking to an article by NPR’s media reporter headlined, “Questionable ‘N.Y. Post’ Scoop Driven By Ex-Hannity Producer And Giuliani.”

David Folkenflik. (Point Park Center for Media Innovation/YouTube)

NPR then used the claim the Post’s reporting was “Russian disinformation” to further justify their decision, saying the laptop’s contents “don’t amount to much.”

“We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ and readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions,” NPR Managing Editor for News Terence Samuel said.

So, the business model at NPR, apparently, is to take your tax dollars to do “journalism,” only to tell you they don’t need to waste your time by doing actual journalism because it would distract you. Brilliant!

8. Social Media Juggernauts

Without a doubt, the most odious laptop deniers were the executives at Twitter and Facebook. Their implicit—and occasionally explicit–threat to shut down traffic to organizations who dared to report the laptop marked a new era of censorship in America.

The largest “town squares” on Earth were instrumental in shutting down the spread of 100% factual information unfavorable to a major political family.

Jack Dorsey even admitted that there was no evidence to back up Twitter’s decision to lock the New York Post’s account and to algorithmically slow the spread of the factual stories.

In 2022, Mark Zuckerberg also copped to the censorship, only he blamed the decision on an FBI warning to be on the lookout for foreign propaganda dump. But it was Facebook’s own team that decided—without evidence—to memory hole the biggest story of the election cycle.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

The 50+ former intelligence officials who claimed the laptop was part of a disinformation campaign: James Clapper, Michael Hayden, Leon Panetta, John Brennan, Thomas Finger, Rick Ledgett, John McLaughlin, Michael Morell, Mike Vickers, Doug Wise, Nick Rasmussen, Russ Travers, Andy Liepman, John Moseman, Larry Pfeiffer, Jeremy Bash, Rodney Snyder, Glenn Gerstell, David B. Buckley, Nada Bakos, Patty Brandmaier, James B. Bruce, David Cariens, Janice Cariens, Paul Kolbe, Peter Corsell, Brett Davis, Roger Zane George, Steven L. Vanell, Winston Wiley, Kristin Wood, and 9 additional former intelligence officials who declined to be named.

Network news talking heads who openly, but baselessly, conjectured that the laptop was fake: Erin Burnett, Wolf Blitzer, Joe Scarborough, Jonathan Lemire, and many, many more!

CNN Contributor Dean Obeidallah Marks 9/11 by Comparing Trump, MAGA to Bin Laden, Terrorists

Left-wing radio host and CNN contributor Dean Obeidallah commemorated the 9/11 terror attacks with several posts equating former President Donald Trump and “MAGA” Republicans with the Islamic terrorists behind the deadly 2001 attacks.

Marking the 21st anniversary of the September 11 attacks that saw Islamic terrorists kill nearly 3,000 Americans, left-wing commentator Dean Obeidallah posted a series of tweets comparing the former president and his supporters to al-Qaeda and then-leader Osama bin Laden.

“Terrorists are terrorists – be they Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda or Trump’s MAGA,” Obeidallah wrote in one tweet. “Time to hold Trump accountable!!”

In another post, he compared the former president’s right to “freely travel” in the United States to granting that same right to al-Qaeda founder Bin Laden.

“Take a moment and imagine if after 9/11, Bin Laden were allowed to freely travel America, spewing lies in an effort to radicalize more people to commit violence in his name?!” he wrote.

“Well that is EXACTLY what Donald Trump has been doing since Jan 6,” he added. “Time to Arrest Trump!!”

Claiming right-wing media outlets “will attempt to grotesquely twist my tweets invoking 9/11,” Obeidallah asserted he would “never stop calling out the threat Trump and MAGA pose to our nation–especially not on the anniversary of 9/11.”

Though 9/11 and the events of January 6 cannot be compared with one another “in terms of loss of life,” Obeidallah admitted, he claimed the Capitol riot “was far more dangerous to our nation in that it was Americans who waged the attack after being radicalized by Donald Trump.”

“And very dangerously, Trump still travels the nation radicalizing people,” he added.

He also said it was “time to bring Trump to justice to protect our nation the same way we brought to justice all involved in 9/11 from Bin Laden on down.”

“MAGA and Al Qaeda both waged deadly attacks against our nation to end our democracy,” he wrote in another. “The difference is the leader of Al Qaeda has been brought to justice, while the leader of MAGA, Donald Trump, still travels our nation radicalizing people for his next terrorist attack.”

The former attorney argued that “terrorists are terrorists – be they Bin Laden’s Al Qaeda or Trump’s MAGA.”

“Time to hold Trump accountable!!” he added.

Last week, Obeidallah said that America is in a battle against so-called “MAGA” Republicans.

Last month, following the US military’s assassination of al-Qaeda leader and bin Laden accomplice Ayman al-Zawahri, Obeidallah said he viewed former President Trump’s supporters as no different than those who supported bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks.

“At this point I LITERALLY view people who still support Donald Trump no different than the despicable, vile people who supported Bin Laden after 9/11,” he wrote.

Hillary Clinton: Lessons to Be Learned from 9/11 About ‘Extremism’ During This Time in Our Country

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that there were lessons that could be learned from what happened to us on September 11, 2001 and we should be “very aware of during this time in our country.”

Clinton said, “Every time we approach September 11, I do think about everything that I saw, all the people that I met, the families of those who lost loved ones. So it is indelibly part of my memories, and I feel grateful that we were able to come together as a country at that really terrible time. We put aside differences. I wish we could find ways of doing that again. We rebuilt New York. We’ve done our best to take care of the families that lost so much on that terrible day. We have also, I think, been reminded about how important it is to try to deal with extremism of any kind, especially when it uses violence to try to achieve political and ideological goals.”

She added,” So I’m one who thinks that there are lessons still to be learned from what happened to us on 9/11 that we should be very aware of during this time in our country and the world’s history.”
