Jen Psaki: Democrats Will Lose Midterms If It Is ‘Referendum’ on Biden

Jen Psaki: Democrats Will Lose Midterms If It Is ‘Referendum’ on Biden

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that if the midterm elections are a referendum on President Joe Biden’s first two years in office, Democrats will lose their majorities.

Psaki said, “I think that Democrats if the election is about who is the most extreme as we saw, you know Kevin McCarthy touch on there with Marjorie Taylor Greene, I’ll say her name, sitting over his left side, then they’re going to win. If it is a referendum on the president, they will lose. And they know that.”

She continued, “They also know that crime is a huge vulnerability for Democrats. I would say one of the biggest vulnerabilities. And if you look at Pennsylvania, for example, what’s been interesting to me is it’s always you follow the money, and where people spending money.”

Psaki added, “In Pennsylvania, the Republicans have been spending millions of dollars on the air on crime ads against Fetterman because that’s where they see his vulnerability. So, yes, the economy is hanging over everything. But you do have to look at state-by-state factors. And crime is a huge issue in the Pennsylvania race.”

Stefanik: We Still Have ‘Dire’ Baby Formula Shortage, GOP House Majority Will Address It

Stefanik: We Still Have ‘Dire’ Baby Formula Shortage, GOP House Majority Will Address It

During an interview with Newsmax TV on Friday’s broadcast of “National Report,” House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) stated that the baby formula shortage “continues to be” a “dire crisis.” And despite some slight improvements, “it’s still very un-American to not be able to access baby formula.” Stefanik also vowed that if they take control of the House in 2022, Republicans will pass legislation to deal with the issue.

Stefanik said, “We are also proud to stand for mothers and making sure that mothers have the support they need, whether it’s increasing our support for [crisis pregnancy centers] or making sure that mothers have the resources. Another way that we have been protecting life is advocating for baby formula. I know, as a young mom, the shelves were empty. I mean, it was a dire crisis. It continues to be. The shelves are slightly getting better, but it’s still very un-American to not be able to access baby formula. It was House Republicans who have led on this issue, who have held the Biden administration accountable, and who have my bill, the [Babies Need More Formula Now Act of 2022], that we will pass in a House Republican Congress.”

Kevin McCarthy: ‘Commitment to America’ Is a ‘Plan for a New Direction’

Kevin McCarthy: ‘Commitment to America’ Is a ‘Plan for a New Direction’

Appearing Friday on the Fox News Channel, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) touted the Republican Party’s “Commitment to America” plan, calling it a set of policy prescriptions for a new direction.

A transcript is as follows:

LAWRENCE JONES: I want to go straight to this plan, the “Commitment to America.” What is this about? Is it true you based this plan similar to what Newt [Gingrich] did back when Clinton was in office?

REP. KEVIN MCCARTHY: We’re in Washington County, Pennsylvania–not Washington, D.C. Why? Because this plan is about all these people and sitting around the table talking about the challenges that they have. Can they afford it? Can they fill up a tank of gas? How do they survive with now the Democrats causing inflation? They lost a whole months salary. Are their communities safe again? You want a community that’s protected and where law enforcement is respected, and where criminals are prosecuted.

[…]

We wanted to do a plan for a new direction, be upfront with the American public, and we want an election to have a contrast. If they put their trust in us, this is exactly what we’ll do.

CDC Director Walensky Dodges on Whether COVID Pandemic Is Over

CDC Director Walensky Dodges on Whether COVID Pandemic Is Over

During an interview with ABC News on Thursday, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky repeatedly refused to say whether she agrees with President Joe Biden’s assessment that the coronavirus pandemic is over.

Host Terry Moran asked, “Dr. Walensky, what was your reaction when you heard President Biden say the pandemic is over, and what do you think of that?”

Walensky responded, “You know, here’s what I can tell you, we’re in a different place. Schools are open and businesses are open. We have a lot of population immunity out there right now. We have a lot of protection from vaccination already. Deaths are still at 350 a day, but they are way lower than they were a year ago, two years ago at this time. So, we are continuing to do everything we can promoting these updated booster shots so that people can get the protection that they need, but recognizing that we are in a much better place than we were a year ago at this time.”

Moran then asked, “But the pandemic is not over, from your perspective?”

Walensky responded, “Well, we continue to encourage people to do all the things that they can do to protect themselves. We have the tools right now to protect yourself. You can get your primary series, if you haven’t yet gotten it. You can get your updated fall bivalent vaccine. And then, should you actually get [infected], we have tools like Paxlovid so that you can protect yourself against severe disease, hospitalization, and death. So, I think, as we look at the big picture, things are very different. Our hospitals are not overwhelmed, people are back to work, schools are open again. I think those are really and critically important metrics.”

Later, Walensky discussed how the CDC needs to do a better job communicating with the public.

DeSantis Says Moving Migrants Exposed Democrat ‘Virtue-Signaling’ – Border Now ‘Front-Burner Issue’

DeSantis Says Moving Migrants Exposed Democrat ‘Virtue-Signaling’ – Border Now ‘Front-Burner Issue’

Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said Monday on MSNBC’s “Hannity” that by sending migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, he exposed that Democrats’ sanctuary jurisdictions are “virtue-signaling” and made immigration and the border “a front-burner issue.”

DeSantis said, “You had millions of people since Biden has been president, illegally coming across the Southern border. Did they freak out on that? No. You have had migrants die in the Rio Grande. You had 50 die in Texas a trailer because they were neglected. Was there a freak-out about that? No. You’ve had criminal aliens get across that southern border and victimize Americans, killing some, raping some. Was there any type of outrage about that? No. And then, of course, we know fentanyl deaths are at an all-time high.”

He continued, “It is only when 50 get put into Martha’s Vineyard, which wasn’t saying they didn’t want this, they said they wanted this. They said they are a sanctuary jurisdiction. These are people who were basically destitute and then put in a situation where they could have succeeded, but that was all virtue-signaling. Not only did they not welcome them, they departed them the next day with the National Guard. Give me a break.”

He added, “I think what we have been able to do is show that this border is a disaster. Biden failed on this as much or more than any other policy. People are talking about it. We want solutions as Americans.”

DeSantis concluded, “People need to press the case in the mid-terms. The economy will be a big issue. Crime will be a huge issue. This immigration and border is now a front-burner issue. This is one where republicans have the advantage without question.”

President Biden: ‘The Pandemic Is Over’

President Biden: ‘The Pandemic Is Over’

President Joe Biden said Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that the coronavirus pandemic was over.

The virus was first identified during an outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Cases reached the United States in early 2020, which caused several states to shut down non-essential businesses and schools beginning in spring 2020. COVID-19 vaccines have been available in various countries since December 2020.

Anchor Scott Pelley said, “Mr. President, first Detroit auto show in three years. Is the pandemic over?”

Biden said, “The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with Covid. We’re still doing a lot of work on it. It’s — but the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing. And I think this is a perfect example of it.”

Biden: I Haven’t Made Final Decision on Running in 2024

President Joe Biden said Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that he had not decided if he would run for president in 2024.

Anchor Scott Pelley said, “Sir, are you committed to running again, or are there certain conditions that have to be right?”

Biden said, “Look, if I were to say to you, I’m running again, all of a sudden a whole range of things come into play that I have requirements, I have to change and move and do.

Pelley said, “In terms of election laws?”

Biden said, “In terms of election laws. And it’s much too early to make that kind of decision. I’m a great respecter of fate. And so what I’m doing is I’m doing my job. I’m going to do that job. And within the timeframe that makes sense after this next election cycle here, going into next year, make a judgment on what to do.”

Pelley said, “You say that it’s much too early to make that decision. I take it the decision has not been made in your own head.”

Biden said, “Look, my intention, as I said, to begin with, is that I would run again. But it’s just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen.”

Biden: U.S. Troops Would Defend Taiwan in Event of Attack from China

President Joe Biden said Sunday on CBS’s “60 Minutes” that U.S. military forces would defend Taiwan if there were “an unprecedented attack” from China.

Anchor Scott Pelley said, “On the same day we spoke to the President, Putin met with China’s leader Xi Jinping. There’s concern that Russia’s attempt to force reunification with Ukraine could inspire China to attack the island of Taiwan. U.S. policy since 1979 has been to recognize Taiwan as part of China but remain silent on whether the U.S. military would defend the democratic government there. This is among the places where our interview runs into controversy.”

Pelley asked, “What should Chinese President Xi know about your commitment to Taiwan?”

Biden said, “We agree with what we signed onto a long time ago. And that there’s a One China policy, and Taiwan makes their own judgments about their independence. We are not moving. We’re not encouraging their being independent. That’s their decision.”

Pelley said, “But would U.S. forces defend the Island?”

Biden said, “Yes, if, in fact, there was an unprecedented attack.”

Pelley said, “After our interview, a White House official told us U.S. policy has not changed. Officially, the U.S. will not say whether American forces would defend Taiwan. But the commander-in-chief had a view of his own.”

Pelley asked, “So, unlike Ukraine, to be clear, sir, U.S. forces, U.S. men and women would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion?”

Biden said, “Yes.”
