It was rumored on November 24 that the Chinese Information Management Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had notified all App stores and distribution platforms to halt all Tencent’s application software updates immediately.

Tencent later responded that it would cooperate with the authority to implement the upgrade-protection measures. The download and use of the existing Apps will not be affected. On the same day, Tencent’s share price in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange once dropped by nearly 3% and closed by down 1.87%.

Sources said that all Tencent’s Apps updates must pass technical inspections by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology accordingly to the newly issued “administrative transition guidance.”

Many believe that such guidance allows the CCP regime to take control of private businesses. Internet giant Tencent is also the first to go under the storm of CCP’s ‘cleaning the internet’ dictates for tighter speech and information control.
